Default Re: Intercede: How much Hate?

As a level 70 paladin that has been around since LU 1, I have used Intercede quite religously. If I am MTing, it is rare that I use unless it is a key player that needs it and i have the health pool to take the hit. Mainly i OT or assist and a well timed intercede can be the difference between a wipe and taking the named down. When speccing my tank i went down AA's/gear/traits to give me maximum health pool/resists/mitigation with the option to switch to dps more when i need to. The problem i see on alot of people interceding is they don't do what they need to boost their health pool and mitigation to take the hit and or choose poorly when to intercede. Another thing to note is when you intercede a player you intercede any incoming damage(some just assume physical, but i have intercepted DOT's, Major Debuffs, Nukes, etc..) There is quite a few mobs in the game where if you can help your healers out in a assist position to the MT you can take a ill time invalidation debuff(or similar effect) and then the MT only gets hit witht he physical hit instead. I have seen other tanks compalin about getting one shotted with intercept when they intercept the main tank while being in the barrage path or health pool in the orange, in my opinion they get what they deserve if they can't use a little bit of reason on where to place their player and when to apply the intercept. For those asking about the hate component, it seems to me to be a low amount, a Mt tossing up his taunt/group taunt will not notice the hate you generate intercepting someone. I also like tossing up intercept on the tactician's armor in MMIS as even with the best tanking scouts, a mistimed stun/stifle may hit when the mob decides to go after a healer and a well timed intercept is just the time needed to regain agro.

So to sum it up, if you are pulling agro off the mt with a intercede(based on the small hate generated with it procing), then you group/raid has bigger problems. It can be a useful tool to help Mt's or errant mobs that go after a rogue healer/dpser, but it doesnt excuse a player that thinks they can agro the mob constantly and have a friendly interceder bail them out. I make sure when i intercede somebody, that it is in a macro form that displays a text message in group chat to let the target and the healer know what i have done, better communication makes things run smoother...:-)
