withouth having really tried to and done some rok raid zones level cap seems a bit low? stroke is maxxed but cunvulsions leave a BIT of improvment, INT INT INT imo,,,, Look at your spels when you chancge your gear that should give you good idea what its having an effect on you.

50% is indeed the cap, AoE are only affect by 1/3 of your current +spell dmg, and DoT only for their first tick.
But the "real" cap, is variable for each players, dependent of its gear, spells quality (adept, master and such), class etc
Because when you get your first +300 spell dmg, most likely ALL your spells will be affected, but as you get more and more spell dmg, some of them will start to cap. And soon you should ask yourself, should I continue to increase my +spell dmg since it will now only affect my big nuke I can cast every 30 sec ?
I think not, rather "balance" it and get Spell Alacrity, Spell Recovery, spell crit, Power Regen and Procs instead.
I think that around +1000 is good for a wizard, maybe a bit more, but beyond that it starts to not worth it. I am around +800 currently, so I am pretty sure +1000 or even more is reachable with a few raid gear and adornments. We shall see.
Let's just say there is a "natural" diminishing curve to +Spell dmg as it affects less of your spells the more you get. Since they are capped.

the cap is per spell, so for an illus my cap is around 500 because that's what my highest spell hits for. Of course I have an aoe dot, but it's not worth capping when i could focus on crit damage because it's value is cut by three
There is no defined cap, but it wouldn't make sense for me to get 50000 spell damage because no spell will gain anymore.

Proc Gear in this tier seems to be the rare item so far.. BOE is cheap and plentiful, crit chance gear seems to be the middle of the road. BOE, Crit Chance, Proc in that order seem to be easy to hard to replace/upgrade. My suggestion is Replace your gear with BoE and go a bit above you max (while working out your new equipment) and replace the BoE with Crit gear as you can by replacing the excess BoE. Grab every piece of proc gear you can and rearange your BoE and Crit to maximize the benifits from those types since they are much easier to do.
I'm sitting with 800 BoE and 41% crit chance ATM with the Praetor Guard from T8 and other Proc gear I had left from t7 to round me out. In the T2 raid zones i'm still sitting 1-3 on the parsor for encounters and 1 on the ZW in most cases.
My BoE may be overkill at the moment but i'll try to trim that down with some proc gear as it drops until i'm capping on BoE and highest crit chance i can and Proc gear to fill in the holes.
Just my thoughts on it.

Khylan does have the most thorough and organized thought as to how gear is with our new system.
I'd suggest anyone to go with his gear plans and use Pinski's post on page 2 to determine how much boe you should have before you start trading out, especially if you're a conj
