i ben hearing about hate decay for some time and not untill now that i actually read the post do i finaly understand it.. the post said "hate naturaly decays" meaning that there is no actual mechanisim in game for it, it just decays as others ext dps goes up and yours stands still. a tank dosent hold agro spaming taunts or dmg. what holds agro is using the right CA at the right time same thing goes for healers keeping their group/raid up and for dps putting out the most dmg possible. knowing the right time is all about both knowing your class and the encounter.

Uh, you arent holding agro off the raid you are holding agro off each individual that makes part of that 50k DPS.

One thing I think I read somewhere but can't recall where is that hate positions have treshold values. Will try to explain it in a example since english is not my native language:
Start situation:
Tank=500 hate (aggro)
DPS=490 hate

DPS generates more hate than the tank currently has:
Tank=500 hate (aggro)
DPS=501 hate

Tank still keeps aggro, but then DPSer gets some more hate:
Tank=500 hate
DPS=510 hate (aggro)

That 10 is enough to peel so aggro now is on DPS. Tank cast a taunt/CA o whatever:
Tank=515 hate
DPS=510 hate (aggro)

DPS still keeps aggro even the Tank is higher on hate. Now the Tank taunts again and exceeds some value so he ges aggro
Tank=530 hate (aggro)
DPS=510 hate

On this same note, due to having 100% melee crit as an Inquisitor, I have found that critical hits have the uncanny ability to generate more agro than the damage they do.

Example:
Critical for 2000 = 2500 threat because it was a crit.

The reason I suspect this is because unless I am in a group with a tank who really knows what they are doing I will grab agro on mobs just from auto attack sometimes. I can do 1500 dps in a group setting and the Zerk tank can do 2k dps and I will still peel agro from him from time to time despite the fact he is taunting and doing more actual dps than I am. I would like to point out too that I will hold the agro with just auto attack while i lower my dps to let the zerk get the agro back. Sometimes i end up tanking the whole encounter because my hate is so high.

If critical hits do generate more hate than the actual damage they cause it might explain a couple things. I have no hard proof of this other than personal experiance, but I firmly believe that Critical hits cause more hate.

Where has that been stated? I have seen the post on hate myself, I dont recall them saying anything at all about hate on heals. We currently dont know the hate on a heal.

Look closer, it's in there. The only thing as know about the hate on heals is that it's less, per point, than the hate on taunts or damage, which is 1:1.

i think your inquis taking agro(and clerics often can) has more to do with the debuffs and control spells (stuns/stilfle/daze) then the actual crit. also it has ben my experiance that actual heals generate more hate than wards so the fact that your heals proc evrytime the tank takes damege might also be the reason for taking agro.

Stoic, I agree with davngr. Its probably your heals and debuffs pushing you over the limit.
