Default Re: +Spell Damage vs +Spell Crit

I'd have to say that as a Wizard, I have found that just having a good base damage is the best. Crits can come in where needed, or if you are advanced on the achievement tree, then you can aquire Catalyst (strength) and Freehand Sorcery (Wisdom). Simply make a macro to use those two and your hardest hitting spell and you have yourself a Nuke.

My goal ever since I started a wizzy was to have the highest INT possible, while gaining extra CRIT percentage over time. I'd suggest using the achievement tree to raise CRIT as well.

To sum up, if it's not obvious, I'd go for damage rather than crit. Of course, this only applies to the Wizard class. I, sadly, have yet to play another caster class that I have accually stuck with.

as far as improving int, I haven't had to try to improve int since mid-tier 7. Raid buffed I'm above 1200 which is where my lvl 80 spells cap for increasing base damage based on my int.

Sorcerors are the ones that benefit the most out of crits, that's not an opinion but pure maths since we have the widest spread in dmg range on our spells.

At the same time we (wizards at least) have the benefit of not being able to cap our BoE on any but our weakest spells, hence we'll benefit quite a lot from large BoE numbers, foremost the % based BoE increasers such as VWB or the Leviathan robe.

So I'd say, when it comes to the pure choice between BoE and crits, go crits until you reach around 80-85% something, then start looking at add up some BoE to that.

Haven't played any other mage class in top end content, but from what I've heard from guildies etc it seems like chanters and summoners have quite an easy time capping BoE, hence it might be easier to start with capping that and then add up with crits.

Base damage is of course a no-brainer for every mage class, but there is on the other hand just a few base dmg increasers in the game apart from the epics. Choker, Mayong's Orb, WoCP, ToNT-set and Trak's belt and you're set on that point.
