Guardians and aviodance
Bit of a Noob ? but I am trying to resolve this.
Is it better for a Raid MT guardian to use say a Monks Avoidance or not
Our Guard MT says if he accepts the buff from a monk he looses one of his buffs and his aviodance goes down.
But he then gets the chance to use the monks aviodance check after his own.
Which is best?

Re: Guardians and aviodance
M1 avoidance buff 54% chance to use the casters avoidance when making an avoidance check. So say your monk *will* avoid 50% of the time... the guardian has a 27% chance to avoid dsaid hit if he was struck initially.
In full defensive I've avoided nealky 40% of the attacks against our MT on one named. That means 40% of the time he avoided a hit I was the one blocking it.
Ask him how much avoidance he looses when he has that cast upon him and compare it to the above numbers. When he tells you how much slap him and tell him he's an idiot.
Even a full offensive monk with nada parry buffs is going to help him avoid more than his self buff will ever do.

Re: Guardians and aviodance
Exactly, also take into account that the Monk can drop Tsunami when the tank is spiking, meaning the monk avoids 100%, 54% of 100% = 54% avoid in an oh shit situation.
Easy way to show this is to throw up ACT and show the avoidance numbers of the MT with the Monks avoidance and than w/o.

Yea, the guard can not place his avoidance buff on another, if he has one on him. And his displayed avoidance on his persona screen will go down because it does not calculate for monks chance. If it did, it would be higher. Alot higher. And it's not hard to check using ACT. Have him run an avoidance report both ways and he'll no longer care about the crappy persona screen.

Re: Guardians and aviodance
The persona screen is busted in other ways too, it's not showing the correct cast speed % from items either.

Re: Guardians and aviodance
Yeah, this buff is (for the general populace) highly under-estimated imo.

Re: Guardians and aviodance
Just curious, but do most MTs use a monk's avoidance?
Personally, I take a Paladin's avoidance buff ( Paladin speced for block AA ).
Does uncontested avoidance vs. contested avoidance make a difference for these types of buffs?
If so, and given a choice of having monk or paladin, what would make the monk preferable to the paladin?

Re: Guardians and aviodance
Monks just have a higher overall avoidance. And like previous poster pointed out, can tsunami. As a zerker, I once equipped a tower shield, had ~35% block, and over 70% overall and still did not avoid as much as the monk, for our MT. I paly with the block aa can get higher block % with the right equipment, but not sure if they can get their overall avoidance to 70+. Again, it's easy to right click the Mt in ACT and get an avoidance report. Compare both ways for yourself since depending on each individual percentages will be different.

Re: Guardians and aviodance
Tsunami = Divine Aura, so no benefit there really for the Monk over Paladin.
And again, if uncontested avoidance still comes in to play for these avoidance buffs, the Paladin will still "avoid" more overall attacks then the Monk.
