Default Re: Auto attacking crit vs CA crit - doesn't add up

i ran some tests with crit about a month ago and my CAs were critting about 7% less than my melee crit value vs a blue con (training wall). ran about 10 fights of just autoattack and CAs.

not sure why that's the case. doesn't effect how i gear or play, just seemed relevant to this thread.

you shouldn't be seeing a 30% difference in crit, though.
are you counting DoT ticks? that will cause errors.

edit: unless there's some sort of scaling mechanism because of the casting time of CAs... my crit was only in the 30s since i was doing my tests with zero spell crit. that's about a 25% loss of crit. 25% loss from 70 would be about 18. so losing thirty still seems inflated, but if there's some other mechanic at work, you could be experiencing a chunk of crit loss due to that.... and the rest could just be sample size, or combat against higher con opponents.

Overall CA crits will always be less then auto attack crit percentage. In the perfect enviroment and with constant fighting the 'Normalization' used by EQ2 could work. But reality of in game play shows it only partially works.

According to my ZW from SoH....

MELEE:
Hits : 1296
Swings : 1451
Crits : 928
so... 928x100/1296 = 71.6%.
Which is EXACLTY what was crit was at the entire night.

Now let's go to my CA's... Since Non-melee count also poisons and other procs I'll go ahead and count the crit % for every of them -sigh-

75%+ 72% + 68% + 62% + 75% + 69% + 74% + 68% + 62% + 74% + 76% + 85% + 71% + 72% + 59% + 71% + 72% + 72% =

70.9999999999994...... = 71%...

Crits are fine.

If crits are adjusted based on the level of the mob, does the level of the spell/weapon play into that calculation? It would kind of make sense, given that the effect (caps) your stats have on a spell or combat art is based on the level of the spell/CA being used. That would explain why the CA crits are always lower.

But with that big of a discrepancy, my first question would be, are you sure all the CA that you are counting are actually using MC, and some aren't using spell crit. Assassins have at least 1 CA, and i think 2 that use spell crit.

Yep, that was it! I was counting poisons/chimes/weapon procs. Minus those out and i'm sitting at a pretty 70%'ish. Guess I'll have to take a closer look at spell crit items and not write them off entirely as useless... Thanks all for the useful input!

I take it you being a Swashy you are timing your CA's. At least most of the Swashy's i know do this and tend to be at the top of the parse most of the time. That could be a reason you are getting more hit%/CA% crits. And as a rule of thumb if a Assassin is doing his job right... dont plan on beating him out on the parse. If you can you mite want to see if you can get put in with the Illy being a Roge you would benifit more from the DA than the Assassin would. They get most of their DPS from Ca's where you should be getting most of yours from Auto attacks.
