Default Auto attacking crit vs CA crit - doesn't add up

Melee Crit and CA Crit.. I thought melee crit increased both auto and CAs. I'm running 73% melee crit, 12% DA, and 55% melee Auto AE. But according to ACT, my CA crit is only at 40%, where as my auto attack melee crit is at 70%. Why is there such a huge difference? Is there some type of attack (auto AE?) that doesn't crit?

Any ideas why this is happening?

Naw..the %s are based purely on # of hits that land.

Probably due to the number of autoattack versus ca swings.

test your crit % with just autoattack only, no ca's. Then test your crit % with just ca's and no autoattack (this will be difficult, but manageable).

Basically, you need to test equal number of hits to get an accurate reading. Let autoattack hit for 100 swings, then use just ca's for 100 swings and see how the numbers add up then.

100 swings each might be too small of a sample to accurately judge this, so play around with 200 swings, 300, 400, etc.

In a perfect world, you'll crit 73% of the time, but the rng isn't always friendly.

Curious to see your findings...

crits always showed accurately for me, you did update your combat tracker right? the damage figures ingame were changed several weeks ago and this affected combat tracker.

While it doesnt adress the disparity between your AA crit % and your CA crit % 70percent crit really isnt 70percent crit...for whatever reason devs put in a percent multiplier but based it on level of the foe. Even at 100percent you crit around 70percent of the time in VP. It should read as a value not as a percentage, kinda like Haste and DPS.

When I look over the parses I see roughly a 5-7percent difference from AA to CA crit %, so perhaps your tracker is picking up something differently, or your using a lot more swings to CA to skew the results.

Dont know what class you are, but I bet you dots are messing your CA crit %, each tick of a dot is concidered a swing, so if you have 1 dot that ticks 5 times that does not crit, that is concidered 5 swings that did not crit in ACT.

I'm a swash. I pulled the numbers from Kor-Sha, less OK. Reason I was studying them so much is because I was getting my ass handed to me by the assassin.

Sample size:

Swash:
Pierce/Slash - 688 crits out of 978 hits (70%)
CAs - 1309 crits out of 3174 hits (41%)

Assassin:
Pierce/Slash - 732 crits out of 1077 hits (67%)
CAs - 2627 crits out of 4079 hits (64%)

I had a dirge w/o DA, he had an Illy. We have similar weapons. I sit at 73% crit, he's at 58% +15% when his weap procs.

I'd believe that ACT's picking it up wrong, except that his numbers add up right. I must be doing something wrong.. I just can't figure out what...

How are you determining how many CAs you used? Is it just strictly non-melee out? If so, that's why you're getting the numbers you're getting. Most procs use spell crits to deteremine, and Predators get an AA to increase their Spell Crits, thus that's why the Assassin looks like they are getting higher crits.
