    Default +CA Damage, Weapon Speed

So I'm relatively new to EQ2 (two months), taking my time leveling and all. My main is a 58 dirge, not as well equipped as I could be, but I've still pulled my groups out of some nasty situations so I'm feeling alright. Not in a raid guild either (Don't know if I want to get into it. It'll be hard resisting being a dirge, I know).

Not totally relevant, but AA Spread is
    sta 4 4 7 8 2
    wis 4 4 6 8 2
eventually I'll pour things into int, and at least enough for bump if possible.

    Anyway, two issues.
    First:
Is +CA worth more than strength on items. I think overall, I've got about 180+ in +CA Damage (not so far behind in +spells). Considering I don't have much time in combat where I'm not using CAs and spells, am I on the right track? Or should I be finding a balance of str and +ca?

    Second issue
Originally I was sticking to faster weapons (1.6) delay on the grounds of having more chances of criting, but moreso more chances of tomb's procing. Reading about 6 pages back here, I'm seeing more go with weapons around 3 or 3.5 seconds in delay. Does anyone know well enough if thats going to make a huge difference since (I'm imagining) tomb's, gleaming, etc will trigger more often?

With equipment, my AA delay is 1.2, and will kick down to 0.6 when I'm with a troubie friend (we're a regular pair often enough)

And probably a bad idea, but on average, how does troub damage compare with dirge?

As a note...got the most info out of this thread, I think

Faster weapons do not allow you to crit more. You can maximize your crits by getting gear and buffs with +crit on it.

With few exceptions, procs are normalized to your base weapon delay, which means essentially a base 1.0 delay weapon will have half the chance to proc as a base 2.0 delay weapon to make up for the fact that it hits twice as much.

Now if you have haste it doesn't change the proc rate per swing (which is based on the original delay), so haste makes you proc more.

Most people use higher delay weapons for two reasons. One is because if you use a very short delay you tend to pause autoattacks more with CAs and spells (if an autoattack was to trigger during casting it waits until casting is over). The other is they tend to have higher min/max spreads which for weapons with equivalent base DPS will do more on crits because the max damage is higher.

Ok, a few responses here. First off, CA Dmg > STR. The auto attack and CA dmg gained from a raised STR is minimal compared to even most of the smallest comperable CA Dmg boosts. Second, the above poster is correct. You want longer delay weapons as a scout especially. Longer delay weapons have higher damage output to make up for not hitting as often, which means that at high end your self buffed/group buffed haste will knock up your attack speed enough to make up for the longer delay, and put out MUCH more dmg, whereas the shorter delay weapons will cap on attack speed much earlier. A 4.0 delay is widely considered as the best weapon delay for a scout based on available haste and attack speed resources, etc.

Also try to always use the same delay on both weapons while dual wielding, as this assures your auto attacks both trigger at the same time, making the AA dmg much more efficient as it doesn't have to dodge CAs multiple times in one cycle to trigger.

Cool, thanks a ton Sage and Embrace...this helps a lot. The proc thing was a huge wonder for me but...I'm glad to know its scaled per weapon speed and all that.

I almost wonder if there's any real advantage of the faster weapons but...I suppose it doesn't matter, I'll be switching to 3.0-4.0 one when I can afford.

    Thanks again
