Ok, so I decided I wanted to play a pure dps class and did some reading. Ranger seemed fun, and it has been. I am getting close to 80 now, and the more I read the more I think assassin may be a better bet. Ranger mythical requires close range for max damage, and you are supposed to be close to max dps anyways by using melee CAs when ranged are all down. This sounds like how an assassin is supposed to play 24/7.

Some concerns I have are the mythical quest and solo abilities of the assassin. The mythical quest looks rather expensive and time consuming (since you need To Speak as a Dragon). Soloing seems like it would not be as easy as a ranger either, since I just kite pretty much everything.

My guild's assassin and ranger class leaders have both said they have their high points, and that in raid fights the dps for equally geared characters is about the same. So what I am hoping for is comments from the following: those who have betrayed to either class and their experience, people with extensive raid leading experience who can give their experiences with both, or those who can give me some useful information in general.

Time input into doing your epic quest actually doesnt matter anyway. Wether you do it 1 day or 1 week matters little if you are going to play for years with it.

In raids rangers are generally more desirable, since their dps on real encounters doesnt blow and they both share their only utility (crits debuff). Ofcourse on trash assasin is going to outparse the ranger easily, but on most avatars..not exactly.

I've noticed (whether right or wrong) that the Predators are pretty balanced, the problem is that (roughly) 80% of the people that raid Rangers are half-assed, so it sets a stereotype for the whole class.

Given the number of fights in TSO that require ranged dps or tons of jousting, stay playin the ranger. Assassins are fine for some fights.

If its a heroic instance - I'd take the assassin. If its a TSO raid - I'd take the ranger.

Of course thats if they were the only two options... If there was a good enchanter or bard around...fuck the preds, give me a useful class.
