Re: Would guilds do so well without the help ACT can give?
Personally we've never used ACT to time AoEs - in all honesty I heard about it only a few months ago. Maybe I'm just too lazy to try it. I mean how hard is it really to hit a button on a start timer? I seriously doubt any guild would have much of a problem pushing start and reset on a timer.

It just does what anyone could do otherwise with a bit of effort. I'll be the first to admit that. I just don't care to put in the effort if I can make my computer do it for me. Probably most people would be that way.
I do have to say that Traumatic Swipe throws a wrench into manual stopwatch timing though.

We only use ACT for post fight anlysis... other than that its someone with a stopwatch or more often than not someone actually coutning the seconds maually in their head.

I mean, that's all it is. You could easily manage without ACT.
But as for people saying just use a stop-watch now? So I guess you just don't bother looking into Traumatic Swipe, or anything of that sort to see if it hits, or you just assume it's always in, in which case you could wipe yourself because of stupidity.
Either-way, grep + timer is the way I'd do it without ACT.

Swipe hits and my rogues tell me if it's on or off.

A text searching utility that's pretty fast and flexible.
A Windows (command line) version is available here, and it's also included in Cygwin.

I always figured Disso would not allow guildies to use ACT or anything like it because it would make the game too easy.

Re: Would guilds do so well without the help ACT can give?
ACT doesn't give you anything more than is in your logs already. I mean it does have the timers, and it has nice charts to break everything down nice and neat, so it certainly does make things easier. Just saying that ACT gets all of its information from data that is already accessable from your logs. Without it, things would be a little tough or getting used to, but shouldn't make or break any raid.
