melee crit question..

I was at flame last night waiting to kill it and i was clearing some trash during the wait just auto attacking and i noticed i crit'ed for like 300 with the sword of valor and i was like wtf. I turned off all procs self everythign and did this again. I crit'ed most of the time for 1,5K ish like normal but every once in awhile i would get a very small crit inthe 300's range.

I was under the impression melee crits = Max base damge of the weapon + up to 30% am i wrong on this ? and no i wasn't debuffed and the mobs where lvl 40's

That's what it is supposed to be for auto-attack. That seems really odd.

just seems very odd to me ... if you noticed there is 2 crits shown there where i crited for 300.

So how does a crit work out? Lets say a sword has 288 max dmg, how does it crit at 30% for 1500 dmg?

Try /weaponstats to see max damage after adjustments.

also another question. does anyone know the formula for figuring out what your weapon should be meleeing for? i know with +dps mod its just take the base from /weaponstat and multiply it, but how does one get said base?

Afaik /weaponstats shows already modified damage, with adjustment from DPS mod and with STR bonuses. Increasing dps mod will increase numbers shown by /weaponstats
