resist gear does not matter for PHH or any other mob for that matter. if you notice on most of the ae's from the harder encounters they are all range based for the amount of damage they do. in my old guild a warden tried it out, and with over 10k resist, he got drilled for 9k from drain life, when he got his hp up and said to hell with resist gear he still got hit hard but did not die due to increasing his hp, but that was from also having the mob debuffed as well...

ROFL... funny that you mention K'hazid, I was going to bring him up after reading the last post. My friends and I do think this guy hits harder the more heat mit you have. He would regularly oneshot the inquizzie or conjie who'd get up to 9 or 10k+ resists, but me in my 4k heat would rarely get touched.

Yup. I don't even worry about resists I max hpts so I don't get 1-shotted.

Blah, none of you want to call it mitigation instead of resists.

Even though a lot of AEs now use 0-9, 9-14, 14+ damage scaling... mitigation is still a factor after that. Especially for power drains. It's just that if you're standing at 15m, you don't really care past what your standard gear gives you for that mitigation type.

Range damage scaling is both interesting, and dumb at the same time. They wanted a way to make AEs avoidable, and yet not 100% avoidable for the debuff effects. It's just unfortunate that they made mitigation not worthwhile to most people except tanks or melee that don't get out of harm's way.
