Default Resist Gear

As a casual guild getting into raiding what resist should you aim for or stop at? We can clear the majority of KoS and are breaking into EOF but was wondering at what point do you stop putting on resist gear? I know some resists I can get up over 10k, but am I over shooting that by 3-4k?

Should casters and healers go with as much resists as possible while tanks go more balanced between resists and hp etc?

Are there any fights where you should go as much resist as possible no matter what?

Thanks

In case any of that confused you, don't bother with resists, just go for HP gear and eat the AoE's - they don't generally do much these days. Cures > all btw.

yeah i used to carry resist gear aorund, but its really a total waste, the mechanics for it are so borked its untrue.

resist gear just means u sacrifice hitting power or other thing for an attempt to resist a particular damage.

just kill the mob. and as said hp > resists.

I found a case where resists worked!
We pulled PHH, and the first pull i was in full dps gear (warlock).
HP was around 5.8k.
My disease resist was around 3k.
Drain Life hit me for over 9k.

Second pull.
Bumped my resist to 7k.
Drain life only hit me for 5k. I lived to nuke again.

I don't much like the ratio on resists to mitigation that i experienced but in this single instance, it saved my ass.
Cruor in DT i still wear full dps gear.

"Resist" gear is a horrible term anyhow. Maybe mitigation gear would be better... or magical mitigation gear. Or maybe some fifty word phrase I was going to come up with next... okay... so much for my suggestion of an accurate term.

The point is, raising your mitigation will increase your resist rate of so terribly few spells in this game that it's not worth it to even use the word "resist". Like 1 in 30 AEs can be resisted... maybe 1 in 15 are CAs and can be avoided.

Only AEs that would murder you in your current group or maybe power drain ones have a real need for any sort of mitigation is what people are saying, I suppose.

It sounds sort of like the previous posters take for granted the mitigation on their normal gear(since it's generally well balanced). Obviously if that gear lost most/all of its varied mitigation stats the opinions would be different. More so it sounded like they wanted all AEs to have at least a chance in hell to be resisted.

Resists don't seem to be very reliable defense against this chap. Just eating the AE is better - there's ways to avoid going splat.

It'd be cool if he actually did MORE damage when you had resist gear on, like punishing you for thinking it mattered hehe.

that sounds more like blind random luck to me, mayb if you had like 10? 20? cases or tests as proof untill then il always think of the fire guy in nizara one shotting me while i had 12k heat and the ranger with 3k resisted it
