Default Perrin (elite fury merc) - Issues

I have all 3 elite mercs. Matri/Kenny have behaved as expected for me and live up to their elite status, but Perrin appears to have some issues.

Perrin has a large number of spells to choose from, but shows no urgency in using them. I see delays of a few seconds consistently in between using spells, unless it's the cure (i'm certain many other spells are ready for use). This has a huge effect on her lack of dps, but most importantly Perrin isn't using his heals when they are needed. Fairly often he will sit idle in the window of a few seconds where you really need a heal. The Kenny merc handles this situation perfectly in my experience (after gninja made some tweaks) so I am confident that Perrin can be fixed as well.

I would also complain about Perrin dealing about the same damage as the standard templar merc by default, but I'm guessing this is due to his casting habbit issues that I pointed out so I won't treat this as a separate issue.

If I need to collect some data to present to the devs I will, but I want to hear if others noticed these issues as well. I would be very surprised if it's just me. As a final comparison, Kenny heals like a boss and deals around 40K dps for me while Perrin deals about 10K dps and often lets me die while sitting idle.

This is unrelated note and possibly should be in another thread, but is there any stat sharing mechanic with the elite mercs? Nobody seems to be able to answer this question. All of my toons are level 92 in withered lands solo quest gear, but i'm hearing from a lot of people that are skyshrine geared that the elite mercs are dealing nearly double the DPS that my elite mercs deal while they are soloing. I would expect a bit of an increase due to buffs being more potent, but doubling the dps seems extreme. I'm wondering if there is some sort of stat sharing mechanic that is in place here that makes your gear affect a merc's dps. I'm perfectly fine with that if it's true, but I can't find documentation on it.

If you log my characters in after all the patches and hunt them down for me, I'll collect all the data you need.

I don't think any stat sharing occurs, but the skyshrine mercs do get bonuses in skyshrine zones. I don't think it outweighs the elite mercs, but I could be wrong.

Perrin thinks he is a mage. Type /merc melee when you engage mobs. Your friends are parsing more with them solely because of the classes they play. Add blade chime + crypt's (on a dirge with 300 potency) to any of them and it'll probably more than double their dps.

Yeah actually I did start doing the /merc melee thing and it triples his dps. It's frustrating to have to do that for every encounter though. Still there must be something wrong if an elite fury can barely outparse a standard templar merc in range mode. Looking at the fury's abilities he has a few spells that should deal 100K or so consistently, but he just putzes around doing nothing instead of contributing.

Ok I think my stat sharing question is answered. I'll leave that alone...

Really my main concern is that Perrin can't be relied on to heal you in fights where the inquis/templar mercs can easily keep you alive. That and he doesn't seem to try to help your dps cause while he's in ranged mode. He will sit idle or cast cures much of the time. When I watch Kenny he's casting spells nearly one after another, which is what I would expect. Perrin simply can't fill a healer or dps role in a group even in content weaker than skyshrine. A standard dps merc can match perrin's melee dps and a templar/inquis merc seems to outperform perrin by far as a healer. Am I really the only one that has this issue with Perrin? It seems there is a huge gap between perrin and kenny.

I'm sure they all have some issues, but my problem with it is that some mercs perform extremely well. Monk/SK/Templar/Matri/Kenny have been nearly perfect in my experience. I can't say the same for perrin, the paladin merc, and the caster dps mercs who all seem to have issues with spell casting (or lack of) at times. It's the imbalance that frustrates me.

I know mercs are a polarizing feature and some people hate them on principle, but it's a really big feature in the game at this point so I wish they would take the time to get it right and not just leave it in the past.

You can set their default behaviour to melee or ranged in the pet window

I checked the merc window and the and the merc tab in the character window and I don't see an option to default the merc to ranged. I would feel slightly better if I didn't always have to send my merc in to melee during every encounter.

Is there anyone out there with both Perrin/Kenny that has noticed that is actually a competent healer while Perrin is not? Maybe I will just collect some data and see if I can prove out some flaws, but I thought more people were seeing this : ) Maybe there just aren't that many people with Perrin yet...

As a fan of the Wheel of Time series, Perrin shouldn't be a healer anyways. Back on topic, yes, Perrin has sucked for me, had him a very short time and decided he sucked and moved back to the Inq SS merc.
