+ spell damage and + base damage are different caps and does not intertwine.Except if increase more of the base damage of the spell then more + spell damage can be applied to that spell.

Cap for + base damage is unknown at this time but known to exceed+50 pct and never takes + spell damage into account.
Cap for +spell damage is half of the spells total damage includeing after +base damage is applied to the damage.
+base damage is a modifier
+spell damage is a effect
each spell has a set minimum damage befor modifers/effects
+base damage increases this....[ a spell hits mob for 100 points of damage.....you have a +10 base daage modifier on it...the damage to mob will be 110 damage]
each spell can have extra damage applied to it up to a max of half the total damage of the spell...[a spell hits for 100 damage or 110 after base damage then the maximum amount of spell damage that can be applied to the spell is 50 and 55 respectally]
