I made the exact same switch, and the game wasnt dead to me until those last few levels before starting In Kunark (60-68).
They sucked major ass.
Sage is gonna be the best bet for tradeskilling. The New Master Crafted Wands arent horribly expensive for as often as you'll need to upgrade.
No reason to take a hardline regarding solo or dps build. Just get an achievement mirror made. It sucks when you have to go all the way back home to swap builds, but its worth it.
