Besides the look of the pet what is the difference? If I upgrade from fiery magician adept 3 to fiery magician master 1 will my dps increase significantly?

10-15 pct difference between adept 3 and master 1s iirc.

Correct, the pet gains about 10-15% DPS regarding its base spells, and about 5-10% improved resistability i think.

So would the master1 60's mage/scout pet out dps adept 3 70's pet?

Depends. Last I checked though, at level 80 the Adept 3 tier 8 pets do more damage than the tier 7 pets. But at lower levels (the 73-76 range) this is not the case. There is one major problem though: Most raid mobs (and even some dungeon/instance mobs) are red-con to the tier 7 pets (anything level 81 is red-con to the t7 scout, and 83 to the t7 mage), and therefore these pets will have insanely high resist rates compared to the tier 8 pets.

I didn't even take that into account before asking; just thought pets leveled up with us since they are always white con to us.

They continue to level up with us until you get the next pet in the series. When that happens, the previous version stops leveling.
