Default Guidelines (Read before asking dumb questions)

I am making this post to stave off stupid questions on this board in the future. I am sure this is all oldhat to most of you so I apologize for having to fill the boards with this trash. Yes there are things that make the basic chioces more complex and I have no problem trying to help field those questions. This is just for people who just have no idea what they are doing.

Being good as a conjuror isnt very hard at all, you could easily train an illiterate preschooler to do it. Just follow these guidelines and anyone can be a dps machine as a conjuror.

PETS
  • Raids - Use the mage pet. Do not even think about using any other pet to dps. The mage pet will out dps the scout or tank pet in 100% of the raid encounters in game at this point, so there is no need to use any other pet. Never forget to use /pet ranged on encounters that have an AE. This thing doesnt work as reliably as it should so spam the command four or five times to make sure it sticks.

  • Groups - Use the scout pet. The mage pet takes too long to cast to deal sufficient damage in your regular 6 person group. The scout pet can easily offtank and be used to pull more mobs so that the xp does not slow down. If the mage pet is out damaging your scout pet in your group, find a new group because they are not doing enough dps. Also, the mage pet has a tendancy to die really fast in a quick moving xp situation.

  • Solo - Use wichever pet you like. It really doesnt matter at all. The scout pet kills fast enough compared to the tank pet so the mob does less damage and they equal out. If kiting is your thing the mage pet works just fine. It doesnt matter at all, all three pets are fine for soloing just about anything heroic that there is.

GEAR
  • Power Regen - You are a conjuror, not a necromancer, you NEED power regen. A lack of power regen will cause you to have much more downtime and your dps will suffer should you run out of power midfight, so dont let it happen. Make sure you choose enough slots on your character to keep power regen items equipped. A mixture of FT gear and power proc gear is ideal, dont neglect either.

  • Damage Procs - Damage is priority number one for a conjuror. If you find yourself usually grouped with a bard and an enchanter, then ideally you would want to get damage increases on every single slot of your gear. To maximze your damage, remember that guarenteed procs such as on the Dagger of Arcane Rites are by far the most beneficial. Secondly are procs that increase the damage done by our pets. There is only one such item currently in game and it comes off of contested Mayong Mistmoore, so dont hold your breath on this. Third comes raw damage procs wich are found on many pieces of gear these days. Next are spell crit inrceases. There are no items in game that increase your chance to score a spell crit by more than 2%, otherwise this would be higher up on the list. There are some pretty terrible proc's out there so dont be stupid and value a 1.8x a minute proc for 150 damage over something like 2% spell crits. You do actually have to use your brain occasionaly, even as a conjuror. Finally Bolt of Energy type items that add "up to X amount of damage". These benefit us far less than other classes and are easily the least productive in terms of damage output.

  • Stats are meaningless for the most part. In collecting your damage and power gear you should have more than enough intelligence to the point that your not going to see a significant increase by adding much more. If an item doesn affect add to your damage output or increase your power regeneration it is worthless and not fit to be worn. I repeat, items without any form of effect are garbage, do not ever settle on these items as being good enough, they arent, they are crap.
  • Adornments - Adorn everything. Adornments are just a little thing to add the smallest of boosts to your character to take advantage of them. +14 to a stat is better than no stats sadly, so even if your stuck getting 14 wisdom(fuck you forearm adornments), its better than nothing. And before someone asks, the stupid 1 time a minute proc for jack shit damage on the necklace is far worse than up to 25 damage.

  • There are a few exceptions to the damage gear. Many items now have multiple effects wich will change their value to a conjuror. For example, the Staff of Light increased damage by up to 100 and has a decent 1.8x a minute proc on it(it also decreases cast timers by 5% but with our EoF aa's that is basically useless). This has a greater value than an item such as the dagger of arcane rites or even the godking weapon wich had both power regen, an int buff, and a damage proc. This is another case of where players actually have to use their brain to figure out what is the best chioce. Another thing I left off the list are the items that have a chance to proc an increase to the percent damage your spells do. Be careful as to what you may give up for these as half of our damage comes from the pet and will not be affected by these procs at all.

SPELLS
  • Upgrades - Get masters of every single spell, period. I dont care if you dont cast it often or dont like the spell, get a fucking master of it. If you even cast the spell one time a month, a master is better than a non master.
  • Always cast Blazing Avatar before the pull. This spell casts far too slowly to waste incombat time on encounters that only last 30 seconds. Have it on the pet already when the mob comes in.

  • Elemental Vestment - Dont be stupid with this spell, it is one of the most powerful ones we receive. Far too often I hear of conjurors casting this followed by planeshift and then the swarm/dumbfire pets. That is completely moronic and wastes way too much of the EV's duration. Cast plane shift and pyrromancy at the least before you cast EV. Once EV is up spam the living fuck out of anything quick casting. During the duration of this spell, there is a high liklihood of Blazing Avatar popping up. Begin Casting BA and hit your pet deaggro button in the middle of it to trigger an extra EV proc.

  • Always be casting spells. Never during combat should you ever be standing around with nothing to cast. I dont care if its a single target mob, use your ae's, they are the most damaging spells we get anyways. Chain the hell out of fiery ahnilation and snapping mandibles because every cast has a chance to proc. Those two spells should be your top damaging spells on a zone wide parse. If they are not, you are not casting them enough. If you cant chain cast everything without running out of power, re-evaluate your gear.

  • Melee whenever possible. It doesnt add much, but its still more damage. Lots of classes have melee proc's and with our high intelligence they can hit fucking hard. Dont lose out on them.

  • Expiation - Dont use it on a raid during combat ever. We are not a utility class, we are a dps class. If you want utility, roll a bard. I would rather let someone die and blame the healers for not doing their job then to effectively silence myself and completely stop performing my roll in the raid, wich is to dps. The other dps classes in your group running out of power? Tell them to quit being morons and learn how to conserve power. Your not an enchanter and its not your job to make sure people have power regen.

AA POINTS
  • KoS Tree - Anyone who does any form of raiding should sped 4-4-4-8 in the strength line to max out spell crits and then 7-7-4-8-2 in the INT line to enhance the mage pet. The final point should be used for more intelligence, stamina, or extra deaggro, wichever you prefer. If you do not raid, you should still spec down the strength line as listed above and then choose either the scout or tank pet and pick agility or stamina lines accordingly.(PS they both suck)

  • EoF Tree - There is only one real option here as far as being the best conjuror you can be is and that is to max out blazing avatar and EV on your way to getting bubble. Regardless if you raid or not, there are enough stupid group based ae's that having ae immunity for your pet is a godsend. After that, max out the fast cast aa's on your way to unabate. Fast casting = godly for dps, dont understimate it. The more spells you can get out , the more damage, and the more procs. Faster cast = better.

  • Dont waste your time with the Hyrdomancer. You are not a fury. Let the furies be furies. And that planeshift enhancmenet is crap too. Oh boy it adds 20% of 56% wich pretty much over hasted spells and attacks already. Its not going to help much at all.

That is literally all there is to being a good conjuror. No, it doesnt cover all the specifics and all the finer intricisies of playing a conjuror, but it will let you top your guilds parses for the most part.

You can fully equip yourself out of KoS instance raids or less so that you are damage or power regen gear in every slot except one earring and boots.

If this is too complicated for you to follow in the most basic sense, please do yourself a favor and re-roll because you just dont get it.

Funny enough Ishbu, I believe just you being the mod here will scare enough retards away. Well at least enough of them so that you can easily single out the others.

I can not agree more with this statment.

And if all mages/priests are meleeing.. you will see a raid wide increase in dps..

Most of the concepts under GEAR and SPELLS are applicable to wizards as well.

When you say that we should have enough int, and adding much more wont help much...how much int are you saying is enough?

For level 70, anything over 600 is enough. There are plenty of group and temp group buffs for just about every group these days that half the time or more you should be over 700.

Effects are all that really matter. I never even consider the intelligence on any gear, ever.
