Oh you really don't want to go there.
Compare the Illusionist Set to the Wizard Set.
Wizard Set
+31 Spell Crit
+19 Crit Bonus
+405 Spell Damage
+21 Base Spell Damage
+10 Hostile Reuse
+10 Cast Speed
+15 Second Reuse to Ice Comet (Amazing)
+15% Base Damage to Ice Comet (Amazing)
+60 Second Reuse to Fusion (Amazing)
Illusionist Set
+22 Spell Crit
+3 Spell Crit Bonus
+245 Spell Damage
+10 Base Spell Damage
+8 Hostile Reuse
+5 Beneficial Ruse
+20 Resistability
+5 Crit Bonus During Mana Shoud (Situationally OK)
+15 Base Damage to Synergism (Very Good)
+225 Damage to Synergism (Good)
+5 Spell Crit Bonus to Synergism Target (Amazing)
+120 Damage to Chromatic Shower (Good)
+2 Ticks to Prismatic Chaos (Amazing)
Damage Proc + Arcane Debuff (Very Good)
So, the Wizard gets:
+9 More Spell Crit
+16(!) More Spell Crit Bonus
+11 More Base Spell Damage
+160 More Spell Damage
+2 More Hostile Reuse
+10 Cast Haste, which we Don't really Care about, and Wizards don't really care much about +5 Beneficial Reuse.
There is NO comparison whatsoever. The little fluff the Illusionist gets is no where close. The Wizard Set completely OWNS the Illusionist Set. The Coercer set isn't much better, but does provide some useful buffs (15% Cast Haste to the Group, which we had on our VP set, 5% Melee Crit Bonus, good for others, 10% Base to the Target of Hate, again, useful for others, 3 Ticks for Hostage, which we had on our VP set)
So, yes, Chanter set gear sucks compared to our other mage counterparts. The Summoner set is also amazing and on par with Sorcerers.
So yes, it sucks that they nerf us through gear.
