Default Bangle of Portals?

This weekend the Bangle of Portals dropped for me and I wondered why it isn't in the stickied list of Conj gear here. Is there anything I'm missing? I thought it's a quite good item, alltough it's legendary it surpasses some of the mentioned items in the other thread in my humble eyes.

At least I think it's better than what I had (Band of the Ghoul Protector and Bangle of Thuuga).

But then I don't know what exactly +2 Crit Bonus does. It sounds awesome and rare

Can you shed some light on that for me?

I play an Illusionist, but I have a few comments:

The +2 Crit Bonus affects how the size of a critical hit. A normal critical hit is 1.3 times damage. With the +2 Crit Bonus, a critical hit is now worth 1.32 times the damage.

It's hard to evaluate crit bonus without knowing exactly what your +spell crit is, but in general +spell crit is better until you're close to maxxing out +spell crit.

Second, your forum should have a perma-linked discussion on +spell damage vs. +spell crit. The value of the item depends on your +spell damage cap (are you near it) and the balance between +spell damage and +spell crit. As an illusionist, the rule of thumb I use is 1 spell crit=17 spell damage until I hit my spell damage cap of 700.

Finally, check out the resists. While resists may not be critical for soloing and most grouping, there are some group instances and plenty of raid fights where resistances are critical.

The rule of thumb for Conjurors is Crit > All, but roughly 30 spell damage = roughly 1 crit.

So the +2 crit bonus gives a straight 2% bonus on top of the 130% damage crit resulting in 132% damage crit? Anyone knows for sure? With close to 100% crit chance that would equal to nearly 2% more damage? Sounds better than true for a legendary item effect. or is it 2% of the 30% crit damage that gets added to the spell? Then it would be much less (0,6%) of course.

Or I am thinking something wrong here.

if a spell does 1000 dmg and you have zero crit bonus, your highest dmg will be 1300 (1000*1.3 = 1300).
if you get +2 crit bonus, your highest dmg will be 1320 (1000*1.32 = 1320).

The rule of thumb is fuck critbonus unless you have 110%+ crit chance raid buffed.

Crit bonus also modifies your minimum crit damage if your spell's damage spread is low enough.

If you have a spell that does 800-1000 damage, with a 1.3 crit mod your minimum crit will be 1040. With a 1.32 crit mod your minimum crit will be 1056.

This is more pronounced when your damage spells have a big spread but your crit mod gets bigger as well. For example:

Suppose Crystal Blast has a damage spread of 2068-2798. With a 1.3 crit mod the minimum crit is 2799 (2068 x 1.3 = 2688, which is less than 2798 + 1). With a 1.4 crit mod the minimum crit is 2895 (2068 x 1.4 = 2895, which is more than 2798 + 1). With a 1.7 crit mod the minimum crit is 3515.
