Wanted to see how it parsed for my pet on the training dummy. Here's the results, and also other pet buffs going on with my pet + results.

3 training dummies in a row, casting Blaze every time its up and nothing else.

6 set T4 w/ T3 hat, Hoop of Deadly Destruction, Shroud of Control, Dangle of Twisted Thoughts, Void Touched Symbol of Calling always in other symbol slot.

The difference for the pet is on the order of 350 DPS in favor of the Staff. Haven't had a chance to test it with me also contributing DPS (and therefore taking advantage of the +spell damage as well as epic weapon procs), so I suspect it would be close either way.

After some testing on the dummy with me also contributing DPS alongside my pet, they both appear to be very close to equal for me.

On the other hand I'm over the cap on Crit, so if I were pretty low on crit the Rod of Reaping would probably end up being better by quite a bit. I have the base damage to support the higher Spell Damage too, so if my base damage were very low then likely the Staff would be better.

Rod of Reaping isnt too far off Blazing Effigy from Woes x2.

You gain _25 spell damage, and +2% reuse speed for your pet.

Id be interested in seeing analysis of say, Dagger of the Ethernaught Magus Vs Rod of Reaping. For the casual player this would be somthing that a great number of people would encounter.

There are at least 3 relatively easily attainable items available for symbols slot with 1 or more pet foci effects in it. Voidtouched Symbol of Calling is another that springs to mind.

Rod is a sweet item though.

replace the dagger as quickly as you can, it's pretty terrible

In light of the Quicksilver Blood changes on Test, I reran the comparison (while wearing much more Quicksilver Blood gear i might add)

No contest, Rod of Reaping is better now than Staff of Elemental Mastery.
