I am wondering whats better for me. Dagger of Ethernaut vs Tome of Amalgation. im not at crit cap yet so id have 3 more crit chance and a proc chance with the dagger but tome of amalgation would give my pet a 5% base damage spell / ca increase. Pls share your opinions.

I don't see the Tome of Amalgation on lootdb.com so I can't look at the stats. Does it also have +90 spell damage?

have your pet kill about 5 training dummies without any contribution from you at all with both items (10 total). Average them out and look at the difference in pet dps. The proc from the dagger alone (lootdb has it listed as 1197). 1197*1.8/60 = 35.91 DPS. Does the 5% pet base damage increase you'r pet's DPS by more than 35.91? If not, then no need to do any more tests.

If so, then you need to start thinking about the difference in +90 damage. How does that impact your DPS? This is a little more complicated since it impacts all spells. I normally just stick with the BoE spell since it is simple. There is a min-max, so I take the middle of the road for my calculations. How many times can you cast BoE per minute/60 = the dps from that spell. Look at the difference and see if it is a big difference. Although this is only one spell, this 90 damage also impacts every other spell, so the difference will be a bit higher.

The +3 crit is a bit more of a challenge to calculate and I normally don't bother with it. I would do a calculation up to this point to see where you stand and if it is a close call, then the 3% might tip you over the edge to use the dagger. If Tome still blows it away, then don't worry about the 3% increase.

nah, the tome does not increase spell damage by 90 but since im at cap it wont matter. thanks for your reply

Looks nice on paper, but in reality the proc does around 150+ dps for my conjie.

now go get some real items and guess what, you will end up having like 600 boe, while the cap will be up to some 1,2k with tons of base damage

I haven't really measured the dps of my dagger. I guess I can mess around with it and see how it procs for me.

The dagger proc is garbage. But in this case it beats out Tome of Amalgamation. 5 pet base damage simply doesn't compete with crit + spell damage + ethernaut proc for you.

I'm too lazy to parse all 30 gb of logs to find the conjuror ones, but you can check this gozak parse from our troubador from yesterday:



The highlighted line is the Dire Consequences proc from signet of betrayal, which has a 2.0 chance to proc. 19 times in 3.5 min =!= 2 times per minute. Even 4 times per minute, if you want (while, obviously, the troub wasn't grouped with a dirge/templar/anashti charm for proc rate boost)
