Dunno if this has been discussed before or not, but here it is. What's the best to put on both secondary/ranged items? +45 magic dmg or 1% crits for each? I have the 45 mag dmg, but im thinkin of switchin. Opinions? Facts? Thx!

Re: Question
I go with + crits.
First: Remember the normilized garbage
Second: Any of the +45 damage adornments apply to only one school of magic............magic,fire,disease,mental...so on and so forth.
Thrird: Crits affect dots of critting each tick.umm yeah id take more chance to crit a dot to have crit on every tick then add +2 to each tick.
Forth: On AE ....crits affect each mob with crit damage compared to +3 or what ever the measly amount is.

Re: Question
For what it's worth, and I'm a small fish in this big pond, my parse experiments show more DPS using the +crits vs. the + damage.

Re: Question
I am currently running +45 on both but thinking about swapping to the crit chance. I don't think the bonus damage on what few nukes we have can justify taking away the 2% crit chance, or 3 if you put 1% on all your items. Even though when in a group with a troub your looking at what 25% crit chance as it is, and will 27% really make that big of a diffrence?
I know I know it all adds up, get more items blah blah blah. But when is the trade off worth it? How much BoE/+magic damage items is the cap on snapping?

Its over 400 at the least.
Style of play I suppose is the ultimate answer. Lots of proc gear? Go with crits. If not, use the 45 adorns.

Re: Question
It's pretty simple to calculate. For crits, since the only spell we have that has any sort of damage variance is Seismic Tremor, it safe to assume that 1% crit will add about 3 DPS for every 1000 personal DPS you generate* (Total DPS - Primary Pet - Pet Procs - Dumbfire Pets.) So with, say, 1500 personal DPS and 2% crits, you will be adding about 9 DPS total.
The approximate effects of +90 Magic Damage are as follows (DPS based on a 1 minute period - can't verify the exact numbers since I'm at work, but it should be close):
Snapping Mandibles - +60 damage (1.0 DPS)
Calcify - +90 damage (1.5 DPS)
Seismic Tremor - +20 damage (0.33 DPS) per target
Shattered Terrain - +30 damage (0.5 DPS) pet target
You should be able to estimate the total effect based on how many times you cast each spell per minute.
Crits are best when you're generating very high personal DPS consistently. Otherwise the +Magic Damage is more consistent, and is relatively independent of your total damage output. Crits are the clear choice for Sorcerers, but +damage items are quite viable for Summoners, contrary to conventional wisdom.
* For single targets. A crit on Seismic Tremor or Shattered Terrain on a large AE fight can skew the numbers greatly, but the odds of that are very low when talking about an isolated 1-2% crit chance. Much more difficult to determine the value of 1% crit in an AE context. Keep in mind that +2% crit means you'll be getting an extra critical every 2 minutes or so,
