But say that first root breaks. How long does the second one take to cast, and how likely is it that the wizard will get interrupted before that second root goes off? Then how long does the wizard survive?

Summoners can consistently burn mobs faster, and with their seemingly infinite pools of mana, the bodies stack high.

You're confusing Necromancers with Conjuror's. We don't have infinite pools of mana inherently, only through high level gear.

They are both 2 second casts.
Seems as though its a pretty fast deal. The chances of a mob resisting 2 hits? Unlikely. Also, lets not forget they do get evac. They can kill faster than Conjurors. Any Wizard can solo nameds, only skilled conjurors can. I'm not saying we can't solo, we just aren't as efficient as other mages.

Every Conj I ever talked to always told me they never ran out of mana. :/

We run out as often as any other mage...not often. However, we aren't any more blessed with mana supply as anyone else.

It all comes down to what you define as "soloing." If soloing to you is farming easily accessable named mobs for loot, then Wizards are your best bet. If you're talking about solo questing and Heroic dungeon crawling, Conjurors are far superior.

Conjurors are better equipped to deal with linked mobs. Conjurors are better equipped to deal with densely packed social mobs. A Conjuror can operate in areas where you have to fight the mob point blank or risk pulling adds. I'd love to watch a Wizard solo to Koturah in the back of SoS, or up to the dragon towers in PoA - things I can do easily (and did back when I was mostly A3/Legendary geared.)

Power was my primary issue before I was raid geared, but now that I have multiple power proc and FT items that isn't much of a problem anymore.

I did the whole riddle of the vault with my conjurer for my troub That wouldn't qualify as soloing anymore though :/ Troub buffs ftw.

If you want to solo as a "pet class" TBH your best bet is a coercer.

I still can't solo correctly on any other class because I was so spolied by my coercer.

Get M1 charm, walk into a room, mez adds, put pet on mob, stun the crap out of mob and root it, re-apply mez, rinse and repeat until mob dead.

If mob kills my pet, charm the mob and make it my new pet.
