Default Defiler's...

Honestly, I'm bored with my SK. And the only reason is, because I know that after I put alot of time and work into him, he still won't be a priority for raids. So.. I'm toying around with the idea of a Coercer or Defiler...

I do enjoy healing, but why don't people end play them then? I see people advertising for them all the time. Why are they so unpopular if they are such a desirable raid class?

I love my defiler, and I play her more than my dirge "main" at this point. I *personally* think that many people don't adjust well to the idea of warding versus direct heals and HOT / reactive. People see the tank's HP start moving down, they cast a direct heal, and a reactive or a HOT, and suddenly he's green again or you can see the HP bar moving upwards. Wards obviously don't work that way, and I think it is hard for many to adjust to, especially if they've already played a druid class before.

Kyrsten has it right, Defilers are wards and debuffs. Both are incredibly powerful yet neither is something you can see workin it's magic. It's a subtle class, the backbone of raid healing yet nothing you'll get recognition for in most cases.

What are you talking about? I get crazy recognition from being on the top of the heal parse in almost every fight. The heal bonus items make our wards incredibly powerful. We have more warding power than Mystics, and since reactives don't tick until the wards are down, we end up showing up higher on healing parses than Templars a lot of the time. With the right gear our debuffs can do damage and/or feed us power as well as weaken the mob, so we can do impressive dps while being on top of the heal parse. Subtle my ass.

My main used to be an SK and I'd have to say they are still probably the most fun class to play. SKs (well played SKs that is...) are also the undisputed kings of 1-group-content tanking. Unfortunately, that's where it ends. Since the change to mit tanking and various other nerfs, crusaders have almost no chance at seeing "end game" content. The "swiss army knife of whoopass" has no place in the min/max world of raiding...

Soooooo, if you're looking to go from the red headed stepchild to the pimp ass rockstar, Defiler is the way to go. The down side to this is that you will be needed...constantly. Forget that you have alts because the only phrases you will hear from the raid leader are "wish more of our healers were logged in" or "we need a shammy for this mob". (HAH, *this* mob...they need a shammy for *every* mob... )

Defiler is a very different play style from what you are used to but if you learn to do it well it can be very rewarding...especially when you go on vacation and the first thing you see when you log back in is 23 people telling you that you are banned from ever taking time off...ever again.

QFMFE! Playing a defiler is the top of the being wanted list. We're the first to get woken up for the contesteds along with the tanks, we don't get the 'option' to sit on raids for 'other classes', as they said we are the backbone of the healer core. Not knocking any of the other healers because I've seen our templars do some serious healing, but having a defiler around makes everything so much simpler and more balanced. Plus something people haven't commented much on our debuffs are SUPER nice.

I'd agree with the last few posts. It's hard to take a few nights away from raiding.

My main used to be a SK, and I switched to Defiler for almost all of the reasons listed above. HOWEVER, saying there is no place for a SK on raids is a dumb statement to make. My guilds Offtank is a SK and we have no issue on any encounter that requires split tanking.
