Avatars, Trak and Byzola are the only encounters I was talking about and from your post and the opinion you take I'm gonna go ahead and guess no you aren't regularly fighting those.

It's true. A group only needs x amount of healing before you're just standing there picking your nose and wasting your time. Every bit of DPS makes the mob die sooner.

I'm by no means an uber raider, just a casual one that does pretty good for himself and his groups... No Mythical, and still halfway towards my Fabled.

But IF there is a chance that a healer would be just standing around not needing to heal and DPS'ing instead, in a raid, he should have been swapped out at start for a real DPS class.
If the constant trade windows weren't such a pain in the ass, it'd be like an Assassin running around in raid handing out heal potions; yelling 'Every bit helps!'

Again, i'm not used to being carried around just to attain leet raid gear. Must be nice! I'll worry about DPS when I'm solo'ing or duo'ing. That said, I usually float around 350-450. And yeah, I'm new around here.

I"ve recently started to try to up my dps on raids so reading this thread is helpful in giving me a guideline in what I should be aiming for. I understand that a lot of you are geared up, where I'm not, but even with that I only did 229 rw in MMIS lastnight.

I've got some work to do!

I'm pretty certain, razieh was doing 230dps when he was being lazy on dps in MMIS at Level 70.

Ya the problem is that I'm 80. o_0

While I'm a casual player that does raid some, I recently realized that I really could be doing more and starting to pay attention to gear and order of spell casts for debuffs, dots and DD could do more.

I've started to change my play style (in the raid) from constantly warding to backing off that and casting more dots and dd, relying on the other healers in the group to keep the MT healed. I'll see how that goes

The way I see things is that if you're going into (for example) SoH, you take a raid group that will kill everything there.

Let's say for sake of argument that this requires 5 healers.

The X3 trash mobs in SoH do not take the same number of healers to kill as the boss of the zone. So if you have 5 healers in your raid and you only really need 1 (if that) to kill the X3 trash, wtf are your other 4 healers doing? Healing into a vacuum? Why?

With the click of one gear switch button, you can go from doing 500dps to over 2k. Why wouldn't you do it when the situation allows?

It would be more effective to leave one healer and then get the other 4 to log in as DPS alts, but that requires a lot of relogging, raid re-shuffling, etc. Ultimately takes as much time as it'll save by having the extra DPS.

arieste,

Damn good point. I think I've made the other healers in the MT group lazy on trash mobs or probably more accurately, I'm not letting them do their job as well.

Gear switching button sounds like a good idea. Would someone point me to an example so I can implement this?

Thanks.

I'll start another thread when I have more questions rather than continue to hijack this one.

what is the best gear to focus on for dps? +spell? +DA? proc dmg and debuffs? or just straight intel and str?

w/o my mythical I can push 1500ish or more when the healing isnt taking my attention, I just feel like I've hit a gear barrier. Most of what I have for dps is +spell and +spell crit, just didn't know if it was better focusing on melee stuff instead.

example:

DPS gear depends on your AA spec and usual group setup.

Out of everything i tried, the easiest all purpose boost comes from INT and + spell damage gear. This assuming that you plan to nuke full-time. If you plan to heal / nuke, you might want to do a more melee focus, since your melee hits will matter more in that situation. It gets really situational basically. The good news about DPS gear for a defiler is that you can get a lot of it out of easy instances and quests. The raid stuff is good too of course

OH! and before you go making your DPS gear button, make your Healing Gear button, so you can switch back to your regular stuff when you need.
