True story. You'd be back in the green by the time the mob was engaged. It was awesome.

Having ditched a raiding coercer for my first love, healing, all I can say is I feel like I'm in slow motion while playing the defiler. I'm wanting to spam all kinds of spells, but its just not happening.
The slowness of the class (to me) seems to have taken a lot of the critical thinking out of the defiler. I'm not knocking it...I love playing the defiler. I guess if we could cast any faster, we'd be OP. (Probably why we can't cast alacrity on ourselves...gawd, that'd be awesome)

I'd give my left nut to be able to cast Alacrity on myself.

I disagree it takes critical thinking out. My most common thoughts during the tougher raid fights are about what spell will be the most efficient/beneficial based on how long it will take to cast, along with the judgement that the tank will survive any massive spike dmg hits while I'm casting my slower spells.
Being a good shaman is all about predicting whats going to happen, because its our job to counteract whatever comes.
Based on how I read the fight my casting order can completely change to maximize my impact on it. Playing a druid I didn't feel that at all, it was just whack-a-mole mashing the heal spells and keep HoTs rolling.

I didn't mean it to sound the way I said it. I just meant, given the cast times we have time to think about scenarios (at least I do).

Unless you're on a PvP server. But that's irrelevant. I'd just like to point out that they dominate on PvP

That is quite worrying tbh, you get an immunity to gravitas and during that period while you are immune, gravitas can be cast again, so it makes sense to cast it on someone else - who isn't immune to it. Either your dirge isn't doing it right, or you are not the only one getting gravitas

Why are we necroing threads for pointless, irrelevant little snippets?
Yeah, I was wrong, I'm not the only getting Grav, I was smply trying to make a point. Way to completely take 1 part of my 5 month old post, and not really say anything worth a damn.

Re: What are the pros/cons of a defiler?
It is quite intriguing to listen to what everyone has to say. Anyways I play a defiler on Nagafen (PvP Server) and I love it more than anything. Yes we do have quite some casting times that are no fun, but if you and your group/raid utilize the other classes to benefit your shaman and your group as a whole, it really is not quite that bad. Sometimes our cooldowns do become quite the problem, but one nice thing about a defiler is how many debuffs they have, and how power sufficient we are. If you spec for Canabilize (sp) and use Soul Canabilize (sp) as often as possible, your cooldowns do not seem so horrible, then if you begin to learn to incorporate your debuffs, to help the raid and help your difficulty in healing, you really are quite busy. I know when I am raiding I am always casting something, whether is be debuffs, spells to help myself, or other temp stuff to help group and some group member/s. I personally think that the best healer class in the game for raiding/PvP/grouping is the defiler, but I can do practically everything effectively in those aspects. Only downfall to all of this is that our DMG is no good. If you want to quest I recommend that you do it with either a full group or atleast someone who can do a decent amount of DPS. Other than that, the defiler is quite amazing, and then you put a defiler with a templar and you are pretty much unstoppable
