I didn't see dog useless on T8 raids because he died all the time, he was useless because he can't hit orange con mobs for shit and therefore doesn't proc wards.

Well I guess I forgot to update on what I used and the results, if anyone cares. :P

I went with the STA and INT line and went down AGI for the heal crits. It made for a pretty interesting spec, one I'll have to look into further.

Anyway, we got Leviathan on our first real pull. Now by real pull I mean we had gone there twice before to stock up on vials and get a few extra suits. We wound up having enough for two runs, getting the vast majority of our guild VP flagged.

We went to VP the next night and had a blast. That has got to be the coolest zone they've made so far, at least from what I've seen with my noobness.

The reason your dog died on Levi was because Levi ripostes like crazy. The only way you can send your dog in is if you're on his back side (if you're in a melee group that is back there) I did recently hear that his riposte was stealth removed. I haven't been in there since I heard it, but if this proves true, then you should be able to send you dog in (with AoE immunity) and have him not die.

I run STR line and my dog never dies unless he has aggro or someone behind the mob turns it, which makes him get riposted or frontaled. (yes he is still vulnerable to frontal AoE) That's why the shaman dog always dies in RE2.

STR vs STA... It's all player prefrence really. Neither is wrong as it depends on what you're comfortable with.

The fact is that there are fights that will require you to switch things up a bit in order to put your best foot foward. The trick is knowing what mobs to swap it up on.

STA is a nice line that I enjoy for the double attacks, and speed cures on top of coag. I noticed that when you place 6 in cures you can cure your group with singles as fast as your group... 8 would be even faster.

STR for me has worked just fine in VP, and he's helped me with avoiding ae's, baby wards, and the haste. I personally enjoy seeing my pets numbers flying along with my own DPS. The only times he has died was when I acted a bit hasty and sent him in towards the front of the mob. You also have to know when to pull him back to you as he can't be left alone biting the mob on a ranged fight. Tricky, but fun nontheless.

Just did Levi with dog and it survived np and healed 8% of my healing on this fight, so you can easy use dog on this mob. And btw dog hit rate is actually not that bad it hits with 80-82% hit rate on orange mobs just like a rogue for example.

Aye they just gave the dog some more hp with the latest LU. I was thinking that would change as I have noticed he can stay up a little easier even with repo.

Exactly, thank you everyone. This is why I find it difficult to listen to people who insist "never ever do this omgz". They have blinded themselves to new ideas by their absolute certainty that their way is the only way.

I'm not sure if I'm willing to try the STR line on a VP raid just yet, because once that dog dies then that fight becomes much harder. Since I'm in the MT group, if I gamble and lose then the whole raid loses with me.

After the LU, I played with the dog in VP. I did not respec to STR line, so it had no innate buffs or AoE avoidance.

Positioned at the back of Drusshk and Nexona, it survived the entire fight, and had a 80% hit rate.

Still not enough to switch to STR line again (yet), but I will continue testing and post some ACT stats next time I'm in there (which won't be untill next week).
