Default Defilers in the OT group

Currently we're running 3 shamans. Defiler in the MT group, Defiler in the OT group, and mystic in one of the DPS groups.

Last night I was the defiler in the OT group...and holy crap, it was totally shitty. With 2 other shamans in the raid, I'm really not supposed to ward much of anything, my debuffs generally don't stack with the mystic's, my DPS was retardedly low, and if the OT is called to tank...well, good luck with that, buddy. It doesn't matter how hard I'm spamming heals/wards. I'm minus a ton of the decent healing buffs I get in the MT group. While I'm trying to embrace my new roll as a debuff bot, I'm falling somewhere between useless and worthless.

Any suggestions on how to make the 3rd shaman in a raid worth a shit?

Mental note...don't try and edit the spelling in your post pre-coffee. You'll hit the wrong button.

betray to mystic!

but seriously, you should be running your wards all the time, especially because any dps worth their ass will have chokers on, so you should be having wards up anyway to counter that. if you have any runic cover gear, toss your group heal into your ward rotation so it covers what's eaten up by chokers, and can proc the wards on your group members.

Cycle in your heals while your wards are down, even if your OT is at 100% hp. that 1.whatever seconds it takes to cast the spell is more than enough time to take a hit that will demolish your ward.

Also if you need it, on a 4and a half minute reuse (if you have some reuse gear) soul ward ftwinz

As far as dpsing, you can keep your pet up, out, and alive without the strength spec for the extra dps he gives. he'll survive on almost all trash.

When I was offtank defiler, I kept my group ward up and healed through the mob a majority of the time. Soulward was kept handy for bad tank switches, and I usually tossed in group heals to get ward procs on the group. Generally I had few issues unless the mob in question that was being tanked had a bad spike that I couldn't catch with soulward in time on the offtank.

Defilers are really only suitable for the tank group we bring nothing to any other group. I posted about this in my AA feedback, fact is if you run two mystics and a defiler no reason to have you out side of the tank group. Ever... Even though its fun to DPS we are better in the tank group :/

i found ot group fun cause when mt died and ot picked it up i could laugh at the mt healers for sucking as we kept a lesser geared or less defensive tank alive longer was fun for me!

You want to know what's really fucked up? I do the same amount of DPS in the MT group healing and debuffing my ass off that I do in the OT group with less wards to cast! I'm totally clueless in the OT group!!

I may make the *gulp* switch to mystic. Which is a shame because I really love this class. I do not love, however, getting shoved into a role I'm not really cut out for simply because they don't want to get rid of me yet.

Hehe i know the feeling. I feel clueless as well when i'm in the OT group. It's not that often that we have 3 shammies in the raid, but a few of those times i was placed in a dps group even. Made me feel bad.
I only feel "at home" when i'm in the MT group, which is the point of our class ofcourse, and where i am close to fulltime luckily.

I will not, ever, betray to mystic however. I'd rather roll a mystic from scratch and PL it than betraying my defiler...

Another good task for when you are in the OT group is to use your group wards and ST ward on the Off Tank right before he intercedes. This allows him to take a big hit for the tank, but not get knocked to 20% life doing it.

If you're really not healing or DPSing much you can always toss up Pandemonium as often as you can to keep the mana and DPS going from the OT group as well.

Throw up your sentry and it will ward people near you as well. (Not just in group I hear... haven't confirmed yet)

Lastly, save your heals for Lifeburning Necros to increase their DPS and help the Dirges with rezzes... lots of useful things you can do.

Just a few ideas off the top of my head.

IMO it entirely depends on the fight. In some fights a defiller in OT group will have plenty to do. In maestro it was fun keeping the dps alive. In most fight though you will have nothing to do apart from debuffs and dps. This goes for all the other healers outside of Mt group though and sometimes even the ones inside the MT group.

If you think that a defiler has nothing to do when not in a tank group , get into the dps group in Trakannon or Byzola and dps. See what happens.
