Default Pewarding

63 defiler. Dungeons are starting to become a tad bit harder. Some tanks have no problem keeping mobs off me if I preward, some don't do it at all.

Is this a job a tank should be fulfilling?

Do defilers not preward most the time?

Should I talk to the tank about prewarding everytime when I first join a group?

Are there just certain pulls in the game where there should be prewarding and certain pulls where there shouldn't be, and its part of my job to learn them?

If defilers shouldn't preward most the time, then do we cancel a ward at the end of every fight (cause it'll still be there during the next pull?)

This becomes an issue more of the time when theres more than 1 mob being pulled, especially when they're not close to each other.

I'm just really reluctant to stop prewarding. I like to cast singletarget ward and then immediately groupward inbetween pulls. That way squishies have some extra health in case something goes wrong, as well as the tank starting out with more health when he gets hit.

Just kinda want to know what is fair for me to expect out of average tanks and good tanks. And what they expect out of me.

The short answer is... _always_ preward.

It is the tanks job to get and maintain hate on the mob, and your job is to protect/heal them so yes it is their responsibility to keep the mobs off of you.

On some pulls the tank will need to body pull a mob out of a mess to avoid other adds. In those cases expect to take aggro for a second, but the tank should (if they know wtf they are doing) snatch it right off of you with a taunt.

A tip of advice for body pulls get to the max range of the tank so he/she has ample time/distance to catch whatever may have aggroed on you. Once you are sure he/she has them all, then go in.

Not to mention he copied the same exact post to the guardians forum! At least he figured out he misspelled the title before posting the same content.

Also on body pulls preward yourself with the single target then group ward,,,then you can single target the tank late, this way you have some protection for lame tanks and the group should be enough as long as your groups not going apeshit on the dps right off the bat. If they are then its their damned fault they died. Get a new group.

Ya, I preward myself if the tank isn't consistently keeping aggro on pulls. I'll also preward all melee if there is some sort of aoe. Or they're just stealing aggro from time to time.

Screw warding DPS IMO, If they can't learn to control agro, especially with the agro meter, They deserve to die IMO, but that is with a decent tank, if they tank sucks, I guess ward the DPS or just /leave group lol

if a tank is having that much difficulty gaining aggro, the problem is definitely not you prewarding. sometimes even a decent tank will bounce a mob off me for a split second but it is only for a split second. if a tank starts asking you why you are getting so much aggro, ask him why he is sucking so bad at DPSing/taunting.

I run with a defiler most of the time, so speaking from a tank's perspective, prewards should not a be a problem. Like most have said, on a body pull yeah, you're going to get aggro, but the tank should be expecting it. If for some reason the tank can't keep it off you, don't blame yourself. Tanks usually have a problem with this sort of thing if their gear isn't so good or they're running around with less then AD3 taunts. If that's the case, you'd be better off finding another tank...one who doesn't suck.
