Re: Defiler in OT Group
Get a set of dps gear, and put out some pew pew!
Or, get better than the mystic, so you can be where you're supposed to be.

Skill isn't the issue at all, it's more of a seniority thing really
DPS gear isn't a bad idea, I have a set, though it's not great. I just feel so.... wrong... doing DPS as a defiler hahah.

Re: Defiler in OT Group
If I was your Mystic I would kill you for overwriting my Wards, Mainly because mystics have by default little better wards than defilers. They just dont have the healing effect on them ;). But cross healing is fine.

Yea see that's where I was torn - it used to be that wards just gave the "would not take effect" message, but now they over write.
My thought was it sucks to overwrite, but on the other hand, say mystic tosses up a 4k ward, then MT gets hit, ward is down to 1k. When I toss mine up, it does over-write, but it also brings the ward total back up to ~4k, which helps keep the tank up.
But, in general, I should just stick to heals, and not wards then?

Re: Defiler in OT Group
Yeah probably best stick to heals. I once though it would be kind of cool to work out some system where two shammies warding the same person would work, much like you said. However that is probably not very possible. Just imagine yourself in the mystic's place: your ward suddenly gets overwritten and if you're not constantly watching how much dmg was left, you may get the wrong idea, and start spamming wards because hey, they're gone so quickly, thus diverting from debuffing and curing and other stuff.
So yeah I guess cross heal, cross cure not just the MT but everyone in raid, whichever group needs the most help. Dps I guess, if you’re really bored. Also, the rare times I get put in the OT group is usually a great opportunity to have all of my debuffs up at the same time, which I usually can't manage when in the MT group.

*DING*
Looks like the latest batch of no0bs has finally finished cooking.
The short answer is that you're a Defiler...*THE* pimp daddy, rock star of raid healing. If you're not able to point and laugh from the top of the heal parse, THE PROBLEM IS YOU!

... Okay, thanks I suppose, though I don't recall anyone mentioning that they had this particular problem. My question was about the role of the Defiler in the OT group, not about who is topping the heal parse...

Re: Defiler in OT Group
I'm usually spamming my wards so much in the MT group that it really doesn't matter if there's someone else overwriting me. As long as there's a full ward on the tank, that's a good thing. Unless you're doing trivial content where the tank is taking very little damage (in which case, who cares which ward ends up absorbing the damage; one of you can just go full DPS and it wouldn't matter in that case), there's a good chance that even when you're overwriting you're simply refreshing a ward that was already weakened by damage. Given the recast on the single target ward you can guarantee it's always up on the tank if you and the mystic are both spamming it.
Regardless, you and the mystic should probably be switched. It shouldn't be based senority, but on the way both classes are built currently. Either of the shaman do fine in the MT spot, but it's the primary healer spot where we excel. I would disagree if the mystic is that much better geared or simply that much of a better healer but with skill being equal swapping the two of you would be more beneficial to the raid. With two defilers, I can understand senority coming into play, but with both types of shaman senority should have nothing to do with it. With equal skill and gear, the defiler should always be in the MT group, and it has little to do with the defiler being better in that position than a mystic (though we are slightly more advantageous there) but simply that the mystic does so much more than a defiler outside of the MT position. Any raid leader that would argue otherwise is shooting themselves, and their raid, in the foot.
