    Default Defiler help needed

    Hello,

I recently started a new defiler and looking at these forums as well as the forums at the official site I can find little to no helpful information on leveling a defiler after the recent expansion. I have seen posts touting AGI and INT as well as STR and STAM and would like to know if anyone out there has any NEW information or tips. I will be soloing and grouping with no plans to raid in the near future but want to see all the content a 6 man can do.

Specifically looking for AA specs and pointers on rotation, Currently I am doing the following:

Ancient Shroud, Atrophy, HO, Putrefy, Imprecate, then throw rabies on the mob while auto attacking. Rinse and repeat...

Get the bane warding bonus from the TSO Tier 1, 2 or 3 armor. Its extremely nice for soloing and tanks will love ya. Without bane, basically just mash some buttons. Wont matter much what you do.

I am with ya run Bane Warding with everything, Be hard pressed to give it up for anything. My fav combo is preward with Both single target and group ward then run in and grab like 10 things hit defile the start auto attacking and dot stuff. Everything dies quick. Sometime I just stand there and watch them die around me! LOL!

Honestly, just about any spec you do will work well for the lower levels. I did STR way back when, only because I liked the free wards from the dog. Canni was a great thing at lower levels too, and made power a non-issue. Some defilers get a good two hander and use that. The new stuff that came out recently isn't really going to change how the lower levels are--the new Sentinel's Fate AA's aren't even trainable until 81+, so they won't factor into much. The one major difference is you only need to worry about wisdom gear for DPS, since it's universal for priests.

The Bane Warding armor is actually level 80 required, I believe. Until then leveling will be a lot slower. I know that isn't much help, but it's been forever since I played a low level defiler :\

These boards tend to lean more heavily towards the endgame and raiding defiler, so most of the answers you're going to get will be related to the high end. I would recommend trying the EQ2players boards.

Lvling to 80 I was very glad I used tribal range line. Also get the Cannibalize (convert health into power) so that if you have a long fight you can still get your power going and it also increases your next spell, so more dps. Get a nice 2h weapon with a big damage spread, preferably with a long delay on it, so that if it hits, it hits HARD, but it isnt delayed to much by anything you cast.

Once you get to 80, forget all thats written above, get the TSO 3set bonus and spec your AAs to whatever you want. Like said before, you'll never beat the dps you get from the TSO set bonus. Just preward yourself, pull the mob, and watch if you need to re-ward yourself. The mob dies by just hitting ya

Really for lower level stuff I love the agi line and the Sta line get your crit chance and tribal proc and get a shield bash and double attack chance. Try INT line also for additional dmg

But your best bet is to find you a partner (sk/zerker are my favs) and just kill as much as you can. One good piece of advise is work on your AA dont rush to 90 get as many AA as you can it makes a huge difference in the end.

Sucks to be 80-90 with 100-150 aa have some stuff but not quite enough to make you super effective yet once you get to the 180 AA plus range will start see a huge difference in the way you heal.

yeah i agree with koinoo here. during the rok solo fest grind, str was WAY more helpful than sta line imo. the double attack and shield block was outweighed by the dog's own dps and how lazy i could be with self warding because he was now doing it for me. specifically just talking about the rok boring-shitfest 70-80 but it could apply elsewhere

Prior to stat consolidation, out auto-attack really sucked, so getting AGI + STA and meleeing wasn't nearly as good as getting INT + CANNI line (Defiler tree) and nuking. Dog is nice because it's addition DPS and additional wards that don't require you to cast anything. It's not a lot, but it's nice for soloing.

Even now in full melee spec, with rage and (probably) the best melee weapon in game, by far the majority of my dps comes from nuking, so i'd say it's better to focus that way if you want to do more dps. Plus, you want the Cannibalize line anyway as power is still an issue at low levels so you kill two birds with one stone getting the power regen and all the dps bonuses from the rest of that line.

It's also good to have some soloing gear, although with stat consolidation, it's easy to have an all-purpose set. The quickest way to quickly improve your dps with gear is with +ability modifier stat. Our nukes are pretty low to start with, so +ability mod can quickly build up to almost double your nukes, whereas +crit and such, just result in small crits on small hits.

I rather like having rabies in my rotation, also, at low level you'll find that NOT casting corruption unless everything else is down will improve your dps unless you're capped on casting speed (which you arent at 50). It's very slow to cast and does relatively little damage compared to other things you have so you're better off casting two other dots / nukes in the time it takes.

    happy defiling.
