Hey there!
So, today is the big day. Months and months of work on the Rise of Kunark expansion come to fruition. From the outside, that means hours of 'no gaming possible' in the EQII world, so I thought it would be nice to share a bit of what's going on behind the scenes as things progress today.
What's going on right now?
It's just shy of 6:30 in the morning in San Diego, and all is quiet at the SOE offices. Teams like Operations and Platform have had people in the building all night, working on both expansions, but the dev teams are getting some well deserved rest.
I got in at 6:00 this morning, to start getting my day on. Even though the servers are down, there is a lot that can be done, and I definitely want to get up to speed very fast on emails, notifications, and the forum threads going on. I'm not alone though, Eovania is here checking on everything for our German audience, and Tony from the EQII marketing team is hanging with us, and has brought the goodness known as 'McMuffin' along with him to make the morning bright!
In reference to EQII itself, the update is being put onto the live servers, and there isn't a lot of excitement to talk about. Even the internal IRC channel is quiet. In the next hour, that stands to change. The dev team and a horde of other people from SOE will start pouring into the office to start their day. After all the background server stuff happens, there will be a round of testing, and validation to make sure things can come up nice, and then it's on... and Rise of Kunark will be in your hands!
I'll update this every so often while we are down this morning, and also see if I can't cajole others to post in here (no comments though, so it is easy to read). I hope your day is going well and that you are just as eagerly awaiting the opportunity to get into Kunark today as I am!
