I'd also like to throw in a quick fact: SOE San Diego losing external network connectivity has nothing to do with the stability of the EQII servers. Any server that was in S.D. for any game at all fell off last night when this happened. From there the Ops team was instantly working to restore the connection to the internet and then make sure all the games picked up on the return of the network and were ready to go.
Unrest drew special bonus points with added time locked as something specific triggered there (I don't know the tech on it, but that was where the dev team was working).
Then, at about 5 - 5:30 AM last night, the DB behind our sessions servers stalled and all games were again affected (note the posts in this thread) while the Ops and Platform overnight teams (and a few people who were called out of bed for the issue) worked to get sessions rolling again.
In both cases, it wasn't the games that had an issue, it was a service the games relied upon.
This isn't to disclaim that we haven't had some game related problems since the expansion, but I prefer that people have the facts and know exactly why they should put on the angry hat.
Last night was a big dose of Murphy's Law. It wasn't good enough for just one service to have an issue... two was much better apparently. Had I known at 5am that we were in trouble, I would have called Gnobrin and made him post!
