Yep, it was a FULL eclipse. I ran out of Gorowyn and looked up, since my shadow seemed to be missing and *WHAT?!* there was an eclipse. I ran down the hill to just beyond the griffon tower and there's where the snapshot was taken. I've been playing since release, and I've never seen such a thing.
