Thanks for posting your other accounts of this problem.
It makes sense that it only happens the first time, because we fetch the options from the server and have to determine which options are available. Not sure what would make it happen on older systems though, because this is more related to network traffic than cpu or ram usage.
I'll add this to my list of things to look at, maybe we can find something going on in the background that shouldn't be happening.
