We are upgrading the loot in VP. It was mentioned in the dev chat a few weeks ago, and I thought it had popped up a few other places as well, however it won't be coming before the next GU.
As a general rule (There are exceptions of course), we prefer to put larger changes in a Game Update to give QA more time with it. The Trakanon earring (And actually another couple items on his treasure table), had broken effects, so we fixed the bug. Changing equipment in VP is of a different scope, so it is something we'd rather sit and bake for a while.
