I recently started my first Defiler and am in the mid 20's right now. I'd say the class is more group friendly, preventing damage to others as the key to it. I have no problems soloing, but the strengths of the class seem to magnify in groups.
Others may know more and feel different, but that's been my initial insight (and I love playing the class).
