The blessing is set to have a chance to go off on any spell cast, which would explain why you might see it while buffing, etc. Although it looks somewhat alarming as a lightning bolt strikes you, I did decide to leave the same graphic on the blessing as the old imbue always had, just because it's quite noticeable and when you're in combat you might find it useful to know when your blessing has triggered. The gleaming strike imbue should only be triggered on a successful hit (melee or spell) however so I'm a little puzzled why that one is behaving the same way. It doesn't sound as if it's doing any harm, but we can take a look into what exactly is happening there.
Incidentally you can probably get the same lightning bolt effect by wearing bronze armor and standing on top of Deathfist Lookout in Zek shouting insults about the parentage of Karana. Though it might not be quite as beneficial.
