I remember back in 2004/2005 when a master dropped it was a HUGE deal. The entire server would hear about it and it was really something to be proud of. Then fabled chests got more and more common. Now you can pretty much be guaranteed a master after a 30 minute instance run.

Make only masters drop that no one has scribed yet? Would you like fries with that?

Maybe I should let the RNG decide his paycheck. They're clinging with a death grip to a premise foreign to most other MMO's.

Maybe we should just have everything drop what we want the first time we kill it so we never have to do it again.

Fact MMORPGs are about keeping people playing, with giving people everything they want on their first run in, there would be no way to keep people playing.
Fact MMORPGs are about grinding something, period. Without the "grind" there is nothing in an MMORPG worth doing that can't be done in a chat-room.

So explain your solution to it if you were to be given everything you wanted on the first or second go round? What to do in the game then, oh wait you'd be out of content and quit the game because there'd be nothing left to advance your character.
