There is still plenty of reward to harvesting in person as it's still the only way to get rares (not to mention all the shinies you find while out there) and it's just plain faster than waiting on the minions anyway.
Imbue materials are used to make common recipes, and many classes (such as woodworkers, weaponsmiths, tailors) who have fewer recipes use the imbued versions of the common recipes to level up with. As such, I don't think it's unreasonable for the harvester minions to return the imbue items. The rate at which they return them is certainly something that we can look at tweaking based on feedback.
