Theoretically I imagine it's possible (just my guess, since fireplaces work that way -- haven't checked with anyone as it's the weekend). Practically, I suspect it would be a fair amount of coding change behind the scenes, so probably not an easy thing. Also, if it worked like the fireplaces, it might mean all lights would default to 'off' when the owner isn't home to turn them on, which would mean everybody's homes would look entirely unlit to visitors who enter to buy things - not ideal IMO and probably not popular with many. I also don't know if there would be any practical impact to having a lot of items in houses with on/off codes - would have to check if there was any secondary effect on lag, server overhead, whatever. So, IF it's doable at all, this is something that would still need to be thought through in more detail before deciding if it would actually be desirable. Not going to be a high priority for me at the moment as there are a lot of other more important things to look at first, maybe something to revisit in the future, but this is really just a "might be nice" feature rather than a fix or anything that could be considered at all urgent at this point.
