And though you are standing right next to the mob and your toon is showing the animation that you are swinging, it may just be because your casting CA's and not actually hitting for auto attack damage. Then I started breaking down my parses via ACT against the other melee classes and noticed my slashing/piercing seemed a bit low. I went to ACT website and found:
code:
You must be .+?your target\.
Added to a sound trigger, this will detect if the skill you are using is telling you that you are in the wrong position. (This is more useful for a rogue/predator.)
code:
Your target is too far.+
A useful sound trigger to detect if you're too far away from your current target for melee or spells. I suggest if you melee, just use the system beep as an indicator, because the message gets spammed by EQ2.
This one does get annoying but you may be surprised how often it triggers particularly if you joist alot and think you are back within auto attack range. I believe that Dirges and Brigands auto attack damage accounts for up to 45ish% of their ZW parse.

I use these already....mine raps to me
mm mm moo move closer
mm mm mm move closer

Or if you want to save your sanity put your melee warnings in a different window.

Re: Maximizing DPS Questions
Curious how much difference the weapon timing makes on crit's? I'm guessing it's the same for any class and is based on your Haste?
I have a alt 76 Dirge, so I'm interested if anyone has any info on that.

Crit is based on crit % and scales depending on the con of the mob (you will crit more on greens and less on oranges than your displayed %). All haste has to do with crits is increasing the rate at which you swing.
They're both independant unless I'm misunderstanding what you asked.

The only correlation weapon timing has with crit is the more times you swing the more chances you have to crit. Haste goes by the same theory, more swings = the chance for more crits.
Slower weapons are usually recommended due to them having a higher damage spread(higher crits) and the ability to get ca's off w/o reseting the auto-attack.

Thanx Kall, and Silge for the responses.
Since I'm lazy and not much into the number crunching. I normally will experiment with different AA lines and weapons. I recently went:
WIS 4,4,6,8,1
INT 4,4,8,8,1
STA 4,4,8,3
With a slower (4 Sec) weapon and round shield. And ACT was parsing me solo at 800 - 1200 on non heroic mobs at or around my level. Of course I'm not raiding with this toon yet but, I was really surprised / happy with the output.
Not doubt I probably wasted some points here, but this was my first attempt at bumping up my dps. So I guess I'm asking if anyone runs with a round shield or do most go duel wheel?
Also does anyone really focus on getting the HO's off?

I don't ever use shield, and I'm kinda wondering about the 3pts in the double attack aa that benefits not only you, but the group as well.
Mine look like this:
STA 4, 4, 4, 8
WIS 4, 4, 8, 8, 1
INT 4, 4, 7, 8
the 8 pts in STA boosts you and your groups DA by 10% And atm, the only thing the shield would do for me is help me time my autoattack, I'd only use it for practicing that.

Interesting ... so what are you parsing solo with that setup if you know? Also if you could tell me the timing on your weapons.
Thanx
