i read some of this a while ago, but i didn't reply.

debuffing counts too. the only reason tank survivability would change is difference between spell levels in defensive buffs like elusion and percussion of stone or debuffs like daro's and discante. or, number of achievement points spent in debuff enhancers.

beyond that, if you're running the defensive buffs and casting your debuffs as soon as possible, the difference has nothing to do with the dirge. like kall said, shriek blade is one of the most important debuffs and damage CAs you can get your hands on, so hit it every time it's up.

everything else about playing a dirge is just dps, gravitas, and being on the ball with rezzes.

Imho, there is a lil bit more than just doing as much dps as possible und keep Gravitas on the healer classes.

The good dirges knows how to buff the group with the current group setup. She inspect the tank and other players, knows what class of tank has his strength and weaknesses and throws the right debuffs at the right time on the encounter. Further she knows when its time to bless the healer classes with Gravitas.

The great dirge does the same but she knows when to exchange offensive buffs for defensive buffs, knows when to switch to an unexpected add, stuns it, fears it, slows it. In summary, keeping it away from the group as long as possible or needed.

DPS is not all and never will. Keeping the group alive is so much more important.

in principle i agree, but for most instances it has all become bland and is all about dps. (even for PuGs)
