Default Marrows Song vs. All...

As of last night I picked up the Marrows Song... I've had my eyes set on the doomblade or incandescent for a while now, but after seeing that Kall has it listed 2nd on his list of off-hand weapons to use I scooped it up happily for the lowest dkp amount. It looks like a nice weapon but i'm curious how or why it would be listed as 2nd best offhander... I know the 3.5 delay is just beautiful to match up w/ our epics, and the spread is real nice... but that alone doesnt justify being better than a doomblade. Is the added ability for riana's that gives group memebers 5% reuse to CA's and spells what puts this weapon over the top of the others? Is the damage output for this weapon better than the others or just the fact that it helps your whole group out doing more dps? I'd like to know everybodys thoughts on this so I can decide whether or not to still be looking to drop mass dkp on a doomblade or other non-avatar weapon. Unleash those huge nerd brains, crunch those numbers, and let me know what you guys think please.

who cares about numbers?

have you even equipped it yet? just LOOK at it!

anyway, it's the 5% reuse. not just for your abilities, but for your whole group. and it's a decent weapon to start with.

Yes.

Once you get a better weapon for damage like Doomblade, you can just macro it in with Riana's and macro in your Doomblade with Boon to keep the reuse bonus like you can do with the VP 6 set.

Overall though, if I had a one time quest reward choice between Marrow's Song and the Doomblade I'd choose Marrow's Song.

People underestimate how good reuse bonus is. Especially considering there is barely any in the game. And it's group wide!

Thanks for the input guys... I just needed to justify the loss of dkp to make me feel better. Seems like what i'll end up doing is using the Marrow's Song on really tough fights where my dps is miserable in the first place but on trash whip out a doomblade or something when i get my hands on it do pump up my parse numbers. Once again I appreciate the input guys.

Oh, also I noticed when I equip the song and unequip it I dont see the recast times on my spells changing... do the numbers not change but it still works? obviously when i have it equipped and hit the "P" button it shows i have 5% reuse.

you have to have it equipped when you cast the group buff.
after you cast the buff, it should show a green line of text in the description about the reuse.

then you can swap the weapon out. until your buff gets dispelled, you cancel it, or you die it will retain the reuse attribute.

Or somebody in your group dies, they get a rez, and they will not have the bonus.

this is true. there are some subtle workings of bonuses like this.
with some things (like the set pants dps bonus) if the person even gets out of range of the buff then re-enters range, if you don't have the pants equipped, they won't have the dps bonus re-applied.

if you're not interested in paying attention to your whole group all the time or testing your enhancers and memorizing how they all work, the best way to go to ensure that everyone is getting the bonus is to keep the item equipped.

Equipping a set that provides a bonus to a buff, casting a buff, removing the set = you lose the bonus. Try it with the harmonious bloodmail stuff from DFC or with the Taleweaver's set. When you remove that first piece of the set you lose the bonus.
