Default Positioning on Raiding

I'm a 77 dirge and have recently started raiding. My DPS just isn't what I would like it to be at the moment so I'm trying to work on getting it higher. I've read about the best song/CA progression and I know I need to get longer delay weapons. (just haven't been able to find them yet) Most of my songs/CA are at App3.

One of my problems is positioning. I know I need to get to the back of the mob and DIRECTLY in back for SoB. I find though that every one is all wadded up on the mob and spells are going off and I can barely see the mob at all, let alone tell which is the front and which is the back. Then when I do get to the back I have to get in the exactlly right position for SoB. So I spend a few precious seconds screwing around and hitting icons that tell me I'm not in back and lose DPS.

Does any one have suggestions on how they deal with positioning and getting in the exact right place to pull off SoB?

Best thing to do is stand opposite the tank so the mob is between you and them. Easy really

Yeah. Well, that only helps if you can actually see the tank. Might be one thing if I had the MT targeted but I have the MA targeted and he could be any place.

I appreciate you stating the obvious.

If your having real trouble with it move it back in the order a slot or 2. Use a couple other attacks while runnign around and wait untill your confident that you know your in the right spot. Also if your already stealthed and it wont go off just hit grim strike and get it next time. Standing around doing nothing is the best way to kill your dps.

Partially it's just practice, I think. You might try turning your settings down so spell effects aren't so in-your-face, and make sure you are scrolled out sufficiently to get the best view of the field.

And watching where your assasin stands can help too. Those guys have ass radar.

Create New Macro?
Yes.

What would you like to include in said macro?
/assist <MA name>

What would you like it to be called?
Assist Macro

There, the pesky ring around the MA is gone and you can focus on finding the MT of your choice! The guardian golem illusion can help too, so ask him to turn that on.

Just being aware of what's happening around you can shave off time (like tank positioning prepull, possible tanking spots, pathing on said tanking spots). If it's an unknown zone, tanks will usually pull every mob towards a wall in case of a KB (If they don't, lord help them).

also make a second macro to target MT....nice to know for sure where he is exactly now and then

(specially if your in a family raiding guild like mine where we now and then change MA's. Everyone has another pulling and positioning habbit.

Try having a Fae Guardian as your MT, now that sucks. You will get the hang of it, "ass radar" is a learned skilled.

Get to 80 first then judge your numbers.

The worst possible scenario is when you do your chains and spell rotations and they feel natural and seemless and you look at the parse to find out your numbers still suck.
