Default MC versus DA?

Hey everyone,

I was hoping to get some input from the rest of the dirges. What kind of balance do you have between Melee Crit and Double Attack? At what point on a dirge do you sacrifice one for the other? I currently run at 60 Melee Crit (with potion and whetstones) and about 32 Double Attack. Just curious if such a difference might be bad, and if swapping some MC for DA might boost overall DPS.

If you're at 50 Melee Crit (assuming your 60, -6 from stones and -4 from potion) and 32 Double Attack, I would run DA Potions and Stones.

Thanks for the repost of Kall's scheme Cron. I remembered seeing that before, but couldn't find it when I looked again. And thanks for the input D of D. It's kind of what I figured. I wasn't seeing that big of a bump with the high MC, so that maybe I was too unbalanced.

I've seen that before and it makes sense, but at what point does x amount of crit, dps, haste or whatever become greater than y double attack?

Assume epic or mythical weapon, and only melee skill using the recomended casting order.

So 2% DA > 7 DPS, is 2% DA > 9 DPS? Is an item with 3% melee crit better than an item with 2% DA?

Also why is 2% DA better than 7% DPS mod? if I attack 100 times for 100 dmg, that's 10,000 dmg. If I double attack 2% of the time, or 2 times, that's 10,200 damage.

If I attack 100 times for 107 dmg (7% dps mod), that's 10,700 dmg.

I'm not doubting Kall's findings, just trying to understand the mechanic that makes it work. Does DPS go in before other factors like melee skills, mob levels, etc? Is diminishing returns factored in on the original formula?

First of the dimishing return haste and dps mod have. That means you don't get 7% DPS by 7 DPS mod. Its much lower depending how much DPS mod you already have.
Second you don't have a 100% toHit rate. You will miss some swings. DA is a second chance to hit even you missed the first swing.

I seem to have a little better balance now that I've gotten a few more of my set pieces. Mantle of Lamenting Ballads really helped, as did the Lava Forged Chainmail. Now running at about 53 MC and 42 DA (with stones and potions). When I get a 5th piece I'll swap the Coif of Lamenting Ballads out and put back on the Manipulator's Hood which should get me to 50 MC 46 DA. But so far it does seem to have boosted my parse a hair.

The "sweet spot" is around 120-125 points of Haste and DPS mod, which is where your actual benefit is about 100% Haste and DPS.

The hard cap is 200 points of Haste and DPS mod, but the diminishing returns curve beyond 125 points yields quite a bit less actual benefit for the 75 points.

when DPS'n, str/int stats don't really mighter by our lvls in t8, right?
