Re: What makes a good dirge?
main thing to separate you from the average dirge is to realize that you are NOT a buff-bot. keep your dps up, be active with rezzes on raids, and never let a troub outparse you.

Re: What makes a good dirge?
Not lazy...just want some time to dps for myself, separate myself from those average mystics :P j/k j/k that was posted back when people were bitching at me not to use stoicism and before the awesome TSO pieces for mystic that proc heals off melee attacks...generally enough to take care of chokers just by dpsing <3 So yeah, you're right...that needs to go :D

Re: What makes a good dirge?
glad to know it has SOME use :P lol... it is very long but most stuffs there...
as for the stuff that's not there, you mainly pick up through playing the game anyways and deity options...well that's sorta obvious ;) so long as it's unlocked on you're server and you're evil.
Ugh need new sig :/

Re: What makes a good dirge?
Dirges are extremely gear-dependant when it comes to dealing damage, because such a large portion of our overall damage comes from auto-attacks. Time your auto-attacks, be as active as you can without delaying your auto-attacks, place your AAs in such a fashion as to support whatever gameplay style you have (solo, group, or raid) and go from there.
Best of luck

Re: What makes a good dirge?
I'd say, after playing long enough to get your shaman up, you've probably got a decent feel for the basics that make a good Dirge. You know that they are a utility class, and to truly maximize your effectiveness, you need to be concerned with debuffing, buffing, DPSing, utility, etc without compromising any of the aforementioned. Dirges tend to become craptacular because they either assume they're only DPS (thus throwing 1/2 or more of their class out the window) or only utlity (throwing out the other half).
Anyhow, my words of advice are these: Do the math.
It's the same as every other MMO ever, the game runs on coding and algorithms. The only way to know, for certain, where you're priorities lie is to parse and test.
For example, why is DA so important for us. Well, it's based on the concept that you have our Fabled/Mythical already, because the proc causes us to hit for max in our weapon's DR. So, if you have a weapon that hits for 1000 every time, and you DA, you're doing 2000 damage. If you crit, you're doing 1300 (base - without modification).
Or, if you can increase your damage by 10% with Spell A, and increase your group's damage by 5% with spell B, do some quick calculations. You're doing 20% of the group's damage, thus the group is doing the other 80%. You're looking at double the gain from buffing the group. So, you'd better get that spell off first.
Anyhow, enough rambling, you get the idea. Just don't buy into the naivety about Dirges being one slotted type of character, nor that we're AFKing Buffbots, and do the math.

Re: What makes a good dirge?
Well I've got mythied Mystic, fury, bruiser, and swash, so I'm not new to game mechanics, certainly
I guess a good summary of what people are saying here: be a well-rounded dirge, do your best to learn, don't be an idiot...lol.
