What makes a good dirge?
Hey all. I'm getting sick of my mystic main and I'm leveling a dirge to hopefully replace her at some point. In all that I do, I want to be the best I can. So, in your opinions, what separates a mundane dirge from a great dirge? Is it timing things well, dps output, AA spec, gear, or any number/combination of other things? How can I make sure I'm headed in the right direction to join your illustrious ranks? Thanks for the opinions!

Re: What makes a good dirge?
Meh I've seen the guides, read the advice threads, I'm asking more for opinions here. I'm not asking for specific AA specs or gear choices or anything, just wondering what people think separates a bad dirge from a great dirge, mostly as far as player input goes. I know I mentioned the others, but that's because I'm sure some people see that stuff as the defining characteristic /shrug.

Re: What makes a good dirge?
probably a good dirge would be defined by me as a person who finds things out for themselves and then comes here (or wherever) for more advice.
After this that dirge will go back and try things out again, to come back here to check if there is even more things said dirge could do to improve his/her game play.
etc etc etc.
There just are so many variables, and most are taken for granted by people who intensely play their dirge. This makes an open discussion rather uninteresting.

Heh, I guess by that definition, I'm headed the right way. I've been reading the help threads here, and I'm not a person that accepts a way to do something if I don't understand why. I suppose experience is the best teacher.

Re: What makes a good dirge?
A 'great' dirge is one who knows the abilities well and which easily attainable equipment will do him/her justice. Once he/she realises how all their abilities are useful, and then dabbles with AA specs a little, and testing out some different specs for DPS, and then examining the fabled (or mythical) weapon more closely, then will you be a 'great' dirge.
Take me for example, I rolled my dirge and tried things out, went through forums, nobody had made a consolidated usefulness thread on how to play a dirge so I just went around and progressed my knowledge a bit, and then made the guide and then people corrected me in areas, which i took on the chin and applied it all to my gameplay as well as updated my thread and now, one could say, I'm not too bad (getting 7k parses in an average x2 raid isn't too bad I would say).
The main thing to realise is DA rules for the dirge and also that MC is even less important the better class specific weapon you get. MC is half as important for dirge as any other melee class, but it's still important! DA is first though.
A good dirge has a rounded range of stats from DA to MC to SC to DPS to Haste (and generally, the str etc comes from that).
Examine abilities as you get them and then ask questions about them check my thread, maybe that will have the answer. I know it's long... but pretty much all you need to know to become an average dirge is in there, if not above average (provided you read it correctly).
Good luck in your pursuit to dirginess!

Re: What makes a good dirge?
Thank you for the honest answer. I've read over your thread a few times actually, thanks for making a good (most)-in-one thread. I've also taken a look at the casting order thread, which isn't as useful to me yet since my baby dirge is only 47, thus doesn't have all the class-defining moves yet.
