There's a 2s delay on switching weapons and shields so you can't do it all in one macro. Make a macro to equip your shield > shield bash and make another macro to equip weapon > use whatever CA you want. The CA should be one that you are using many times during the fight, that way you are sure to switch the weapon back quickly.

I assume you are using shield bash to then get behind then mob? if so I would probably put a macro for scream of death and grim strike re-equipping my off-hand...

I used to use a shield spec for soloing as it somehow increases your survivability a bit more, and if you get yourself an extremely decent main hand then it won't really matter as it will be your main hand swinging twice ~X% more over a crappy off-hand swinging -X% more... if that makes sense... and it then increases your survivability.

In general - go all-out - us dirges need to get things killed quick when soloing or not at all... If kiting, equip a shield as those odd blips where the mob manages to hit you will make a significant difference otherwise.
